Yet another question. Problem code P0440

My check engine light came on the other day so I took it to a local parts store that can check the code for you. I got a code of P0440. Which turns out to be an Evaporative Emmissions system malfunction.
My question is, what are some of the parts that I should check or replace to fix this problem.

Well, you should check all your fuel lines, the purge valve, fuel cap (:D), the canister, fule filter. Basically your fuel system.
If you have recently cleared your ECU/DTC, a highway drive and a few days usually makes fault codes go away.

My check engine light cam on last night, when I checked under the hood I saw that the vacuum hose had disconnected from the filter box and was lying on top of the alternator, and there was a hole burnt into it. This morning I explained this to my mechanic and he told me that there was no need to bring the car in, and I could just buy the $4 hose and replace the old one myself. I’ve replaced the hose with the help of a friend, but the check engine light is still on…

My question is should I wait a few days to see if it disappears or should I take it to the dealership and let them charge me a lot of money for a problem so small?
