I own a 90 accord with all the common bolt ons, but my real passion is for my 89 civic lx. i got it for free from a friend who bought a 91 crx si and it has low miles but I want to do an engine swap. I am currently looking for a wrecked 90-93 integra. this way i can use the engine and rear brakes(i think i can use the brakes anyway). My question is do u think this is a good swap? also what can i do to the engine to get more power. i woud love to go ls vtec but I dont have the money yet. Can i swap in diff. pistons and rods?....crank??...cams? i know i can buya ll these knew but i would liek to get them off other vehicles. Any help would be highly appreciated. Do u think it is the best swap for the money or is there a better one that would cost about the same or alittle more? thanx:)

since the car was free, your already ahead. the wrecked car idea isn't bad, you can also use the front brakes, master cyliner, misc parts and have just about everything for the swap. You will need engine mounts, billit hasports for 380 w/free shipping from store.hybridgarage.com/
Theres tons of stuff you can do but whats your budget and power goals, NA or FI?

yup just like he said it's a really good idea a lot of the parts can be swapped over to upgrade your car, there are a lot of aftermarket parts for the ls too and from what i hear its a great engine for the boost... go for it man

I'm in the same boat. Bought a 90 LX w/ a blown head gasket for $500. Clean in & out. Was thinking of puitting a ZC in it at first. Then thought of the teg motor. I don't know... already got a B16 powered hatch. What other motor swap options do I got?? Keep in mind this is supposed to be my daily driver.

I wouldn't go ls/vtec; b18s have a 1.54:1 r/s ratio, 1.75:1 is perfect and b16s have 1.74:1. Reving any motor with such a bad R/S ratio is susceptable to excessive stress on the crank, rods, bearings, pistons, cylinder liners, oil pump, etc. Now you could stroke a B16 or bore it out slightly, that'd be cool.

I wouldn't go ls v-tec or cr vtec either. If its built rite i guess its ok for a while but from what the local shops been tellin me that they'll only use it for drag not streets. Anyways LS motor is a good motor cause not only they're cheap to buy but lots of aftermarket stuff for them. They have potential u will not be dissappointed.:)

actually B16 swaps cost less than B18s, if you know of a place that sells cheap B18s please put it up.

yeah i was thinkin about goin ls vtec but then i hear it is hard to do and i wouldlike to try and do some of the work my self...i dont have much of a backround but i have put in a few engines and now i would like to try and build one up. my uncle owns a machine shop and he works on engines all the time so it shouldnt be too bad. if i dont go ls vtec what should i do? any internal mods i should do like cams and such??

*If* you had the money, you could get the toda head package (1600-/+) and then put in higher compression pistons, gsr oil pump gear, skunk2 intake manifold, bigger throttlebody, upgraded fuel/ignition, re-chiped ecu and that thing would be awsome. Theres sooo many options, theres different routes to take even w/the mods I suggested. The best thing to do is just submerge yourself in engine building, learn everything you can, then you'll know what you want.

Don't go toda! I mean they're good and all but its too damn expensive! Go skunk2 valvetrain with stage 2 cams (just as good as jun 3's).

here what i would do, get skunk2 cam gears stage 2, with full skunk2 valvetrain. then i would get some b16 pistons to up to comp ratio. then all the other stuff listed above like gsr oil pump and stuff.

i was just looking stuff up on skunk2 and on the website they only had vtec cams...can i use the vtec ones or are there non vtec ones also? if i get the skunk2 cams, cam gears, manifold...shoud i also get the vavle springs and retainers? how much hp would that produce and how much do u think all that would cost me? also should i get new rods and pistons? if so what kind and how much hp would that gain me and how much do u think it would run me?

The whole skunk2 valvetrain with skunk2 stage 2 cams should cost 1800. If you want new pistons go with Civic type r pistons with any aftermarket rods (eagle, crower, endyn etc...). The skunk2 manifold should cost around 260.Skunk2 cam gears should be around 180. How much hp it will gain? I can't tell ya cause i wouldn't care what it puts out if its not tuned. IT depends how its tuned bro.
