Ok, I went out to IRP today for Street Legal Drags, heres the run down
R/T:1.249
60:2.520
330:7.185
1/8:11.039 MPH: 63.93
1000:14.206
1/4:17.206 MPH: 78.95
In addition to the fact that I had a shitty ass reaction time, I dumped the clutch at 6500RPM and just sat there and spun forever.

just curious, when was the last time you did a tune up or had your car dynoed? cause that mph is very low. With just an intake and header i was at 89.x mph (but it was at about 1500ft and like 40 degree outside), i'm still up right around 90mph now with the mods listed below (but also in 100+ degree weather). either way your mph seems low.

yah, drag racing does take a lot of practice, so take it easy and just try to figureout wat you might be doing wrong. 17sec for our cars isn't too bad, imo. reaction time could be improved.

it doesnt seem like you have much in the way of performance on your car either. Go for a few basics there maybe and practice launching so your tires dont spin as much.

Huh? The P10's stock performance numbers are better than that.
0-60: 8.3 seconds
1/4 mile: 16.5sec@84mph
FlossinPrimera, you might want to release at around 3500-4000rpms. Less wheel spin. Just my thoughts.
And I agree, reaction time could be improved.. Those are about the same reaction times I was getting when I went to the track the first time in my '91 NX2000 (sold it earlier this year). Ran a best of 15.89 1/4. The new owner was able to get it down to 15.5 1/4 this summer with just better reaction times.

16.5 , 17.0.... 15.5 and over, who cares about our car's trap times. it's slow. get some nos or something to get it into the 14's if you wanna make a statement. well, that's how all the sportcompacts out there are making us feel.

basically. I am with you on that one. We would have to tear out the back and passenger seats. Ride on some 13" wheels. Take the side blinkers off. Take out the spare tire. Chop off trunk/take out A/C. Or basically get DET swapped in (like Luke) to be any competition. Our cars weigh tooooooo much. How could you put a sentra se-r engine into a g20. Big mistake, should have been the V6 and should have at least 170-180 stock. ya heard.:bloated:

Umm.. a V6 would ruin the car... imagine the cars balance now, then add another couple hundred pounds to the front and keep the rear the same, if it remians front wheel drive. Or... add a drivetrain to the equation, make it rear wheel drive, then it's just a heavy ass car. ugh... personally i'd rather have the good handling, and a couple bolt ons. My car is putting down 141 to the wheels with just a couple bolt ons. So far i've been able to hang with ANY import car (except a couple pesky turboed cars) I even can pull from many SE-R's with bolt ons! I almost guarantee I'll hit 14's this winter all motor no problem. Just a decent launch and i'm almost there now, on street tires, and that's with everything still in the car, spare and all.
Yeah, so far my best kills at the track are a newer mustang GT and a mark 3 supra with mods...
Our cars are not that slow... and as far as a 8.3 0-60, your gonna need a REAL good launch to do that stock. I'm guessing that was done with the T model, or one with a limited slip?)

Well mine doesn't have the nice t tranny. I have the non vlsd tranny. So getting a good launch is much tougher. So far at the track my best is a 2.4 sec 60ft. but I've also only gone a couple times, and i've been practicing since, so i'm hoping for a low 2.3 or possibly high 2.2, but i think that's going to be VERY tough.
As far as the 0-60 times, it's all dependant on the launch. I've run anywhere from an 8.5-9.0, but this is also on access ramps and stuff, where the conditions are not that good. This is also at between 2500-3000ft in elevation, and on average around 90-100 degrees outside. So, i'm sure the conditions are much worse than those when they tested the car. I think with a good launch and good conditions a 7.x is possible on a modified G20, but it definitely will not be easy by any means, unless you have a t model, that will make is easier to get a good launch.

JustinP10 . Your p10 weighs less than my p11. P11's are quite big to only be runnin 140-145hp. I mean come on... A civic si has 15-20+ more than us. Might not seem that bad but we (p11's) have about 500 more lbs to carry than a civic si. Ok maybe not a v6, but the DOHC VTEC 2.0 gsr puts out 170hp. Does that mean our SR20DE is inferior to the honda 2.0. I do give it to you on the looks and handling. I don't know but I will be trading my 99 A/T G20 within a couple months. I don't know if I will get another G20 with the Touring pkg-5spd or a 2000+ Celica GT-S. I need something fast now. I suffered riding in an A/T 96 Toyota Tercel. And yeah, I had it looking real well with Body accessories etc, but that muthafunka was slow.
JustinP10
10-03-2001, 02:23 PM
I will give you that. A p11 auto is definitely going to be slower than a 5-spd P10, but a 5-spd p11 and 5-spd p10 are not going to be that much different.
As far as the comparison vs. Hunduhs, yeah, on paper their numbers are higher, but look at torque too, Si's are LUCKY to put down 110 ft. lbs with quite a few mods, i think stock they are maybe at 100ft.lbs, maybe. GSR's have a little more than that, but still maybe about the same as a sr20 motor, but it's also at a much higher rpm too. If you compare our powerband to that of a Honda you'll see that we have a lot more area under the curve.
As for the new car. check out the new Sentra SE-R's. If your looking for performance, i don't think you'll need to look any farther. I personally like the looks of em too, but i have heard different opinions on the looks. But if your thinking 02 5-spd G20t, look at the SE-R too, not as refined, but very very sporty. 175hp (170ft.lbs?) and a 6-spd on the Spec V and for under 20K! :eek2:

Sentra have leather? The only reason I would chose another G again is b/c it is luxury and it looks real nice. The sentra is also under 20g's. Damn.:bloated:

Turbo - can pretty easily be done
leather - just takes money, but who wants leather when you can get race seats in the car stock! (they are out of a skyline):D

they are really nice, I actually saw a preproduction model, one of the test mules at the Nissan proving grounds out here in Az. It was very nice, good fit and finish (for a test car-still pre production stuff, so parts of the interior were kinda rough), but overall i do like the car, more so than the older altimas. Also, don't forget it's a big heavy ass car. It's like taking a N/A 300zx and comparing it to a 200sx SE-R, one has a LOT more hp, but cause of the weight it's really not that much faster, if any. But you're talking about torqueless wonders, so yeah, the Nissan is still gonna rip em a good one. (hopefully) :D

yah, some guy nearby got the metallic gray one... it was very sharp lookin' nissan should've changed the name though imo. altima sounds so econobox-ish to me. yah, it'll stomp on a V6 accord probably...but the funny thing was that when I dragged against their V6 coupe on my G, i was only about 1/2car length behind. so much for honda's V6 power....huh?
I think my wife's old altima could've dusted that V6.

Yeah, a modded G20 will take those out pretty easily (they are heavy ass cars) . As for the new Alitma, i don't know how a G20 would do? I think it depends on how many mods teh G20 has, and how many passengers teh new altima has, damn 240hp (and torque!)

This was the first time I was ever at the track to race anyway. I know it could be improved (my friend with an 85 300ZX ran a 17.049 and 81.6 the same night). I know I could have done better. The last time I ever had a tune up was at 60K miles, I'm planning on doing an overhaul tune up soon. Also, I need a new clutch (the stock one isn't slipping but it does have 101K miles on it now). I plan on going out there the first week its open next year (by that time I hope to have the car lowered, an ACT clutch, some wider and stickier tires). Right now I have BF Goodrich Excentia Touring tires (they are and 80K mile treadwear warranty, definitily a hard compound tire). I figure with some Yokohama Parada's, lowering springs, an ACT clutch, I should be somewhere in the lower 16's (something like a 16.1@89 would be nice).

Well, for the hp they don't have that much torque, but i was more closely referring to a B16 powered honda. they are usually around 10x.xx ft.lbs w/ mods. I've seen a couple reach over 110, but not too many.

My first 1/4 time was 16.1 @ about 85mph I think, that was when my car was stock.
Another guy at the track had a cat back exhaust(rest was stock) and ran 15.7 in his P10.
In a few months I'm going back torace and I think I'll be in the low 15's, the Primeras have
good potential and don't need much money spent to make them go hard. Why sit back and be happy with running 16's and 17's?
I agree that the s2000 has no torque, they are fast but you have to "ring the tits" off them to get them going anywhere fast..has anyone heard that they are the only car in the world that has a recommended brand of tyre as they rely on these tyres for their handling, otherwise they can cause crashes.
ALWAYS LAUNCH YOUR CAR ON THE ORANGE LIGHT!! and dont rev above 5000rpm when you launch.

if my car's service engine lite keeps poppin on every 2 months, can't get the nos unit. as soon as the dealer sees that nozzle, they're gonnna say 'your car aint covered by the warranty'. right?

Yeah, my guess is a dealer wouldn't cover a car running nos, but who knows, I guess it'd depend on who you knew there, or how cool the dealership is. As for teh check engine light, it's emissions related (most of the time). There are directions on SE-R.net to figure out what the MIL light is from.
As for the elantra, i sure hope you won.

hey Bump , was your friend's Si the 160hp one or are you talkin bout the old hatchback. I also have an AT though, so that is why it's harder. One other thing. How do you just quote a piece of someone's post. I would really like to know.

i'm talking 99+ civic si's with 160hp. haven't had the chance to run a civic si hatch yet.. but my friend has a b16a in his civic hatch and i don't even think about keeping up with him. he's got a lot of internal work done though.

Nah. just like a snip of someone's post. Not the whole thing. So you can hang with a 160hp civic si with minor mods, huh. Do you have a P10? What mods do you have to do this, besides having a 5spd.
