It is with great sadness that the organisers of the Dakar announce the death of Bruno Cauvy, co-driver of car number 280. The organisers and the whole Dakar family express their sincerest condoleances to his family and friends.

The accident occured at km 270 of the special from Zilla and Sirar in Lybia.

:( That's terrible.

What kind of car was it and what kind of terrain were they on? Do they know what caused the accident?

He co-drove a Mitsubishi, and the terrain is sand dunes. Probably the car flipped, that's all, but this time it was enough as well.

I saw footage of the car, it flipped onto its roof and sank into the sand to beyond the lower rim of the window, the poor man was trapped upside down, from what the driver said he could not get into the car to help because of as quickly as he could dig sand away, more flowed in.
He was too distraught to tell what happened at the time.

It is sad to see such a thing happen.
