First generation Mazda RX7

This is Monogram's excellent Mazda RX7 kit. It's better than Tamiya's. It has great engine detail, and is unique in that it is a base model car with alloys. Note the single side mirror and no body side molding.
This was a fun car to build (I built it about 6 years ago). I built two of them identically in assembly-line style. A guy paid me to build one like this, I decided I'd like one as well...so I saved some time by building them at the same time. I built it out-of-the-box, only adding flocking for carpeting material. Just the ticket for a tuner to dig into-kinda like a crisp, clean canvas to work from...these little Mazdas were great pocket-rockets. The rotary engines are sweet.
Paint is a custom mix of Testors enamel to match a color swatch of the original color.

jay, are you working on the late version of the 1st gen? the one with a different rear end (the plate is located below the bumper)?

zoom,
looks good, but the wheels are alittle too big and tall though. it needs lower profile tires IMO.

Thanks, I built the kit w/the Monogram TRX's that were in nearly every kit they did in the late 70's through the early 90's-including this kit, and even many musclecars. I want a stock appearance, not a low-profile appearance, the rims are the correct size and width so if you can suggest a kit that has tires that look better, I'm all ears. Narrow, not-low-profile kit tires are not common or easy to come by. In the meantime the TRX's look fine to me, even if they aren't correct for anything other than a 1979 Mustang Cobra by Monogram. The ones in the original Tamiya kit are too low in profile. Maybe I'll see if the tires in the Revell Miata look okay on it.
