ahhhh another great 240sx club meeting. this time we actually went out racing. YES!!! too bad i lost most of them >= ( this is because for some reason i can't get hte tires to bite. i even launched it at 2K rpm and didn't floor it till i got traction but i just couldn't get traction. so that costed me 2 races. but when i did it from a 20mph roll. i won that one. now one of the members is sayin that i can't drive for shit. well i'm goin to rotate my tires so i can get a better launch. anyways, one the way back, another member with a base model S14 auto with intake and exhuast wanted to go at it from a roll. so from 80mph we both guned it and i walked him by 1.5 cars at 105mph, non the less i must say his car is pretty quick for a auto. then after we all split up some white boys in a accord tried to fuck with me. and i burned his ass twice. but he still came back for more!! but i'm done playin with him. he dont' need to try to show off to those girls in the back seat anymore cuase i murdered him. but i don't think i'm goin to race at night and when its too cold. my tires just won't bite. argh! or if anyone knows whats up, maybe you guys can help. anyways the tally for tonight is 4 - 2. oh wellz can't win them all.

Need new tires maybe? Might try lowering the pressure in 'em for racing, maybe. Sounds like you definately need new treads though:)

Tat sounds like you had a good time all in all. Though I don't condone street racing as such still been there done that on the open roads when I was still living in the states.

don't worry about it. this was all done in a desserted avenue where it just goes straight for like 5 miles with no intersection. so you know its not really racing. because we met up in queens and we drove all the way to long island to that one spot which is like 35 miles away just to race safely. but yeha tire pressure. that could be it. i remembered that i raised it to 35psi. hmmmmmmm that definitly could be my problem. but it just drives soo muchs moother at 35psi and its alot more stable. but yeah when its racinig time, i'm goin to lower it down to like 30 or 28. thanks

Only 28#s? For comparison when I make runs on mine, I usually drop the pressure to about 17#s. I know it'd be different for you, but just giving you an idea. 28#s is still a whole bunch. Might want to at least try something like 22 or so:)

What kind of accord did you beat, Tat?

racing on the street, i wouldn't lower the pressure much... it's good at the track, but if you can't take it back up at the street, you gotta run with low pressure on the way home.

it also depends on the tires. performance tires won't be much better with lower psi's if you have low profile tires.

also... keep in mind that on the street, there's nothing you can do to not spin the tires. it's a fact of life. the street is really dirty, and you've got dirt on your tires anyways. spin em a little before you race to heat em up a little.

and keep in mind that if you have that problem, the other guy does too...

It's all about the Drag Radials... Need me a pair.

Cant wait to destroy the set of tires I've got now....

maybe a video will be made of it?:D

I've read from various sources that doing a burn out on a performance street tire is useless. I guess it may just be opinion butt I've also heard many people's perspectives about doing this burnout issue on street performance tires. What may help traction by doing a small burn out is just to clean a small amount of dirt off them meats though!

i've heard likewise...

at least for at the track... b/c it's all sticky, and you won't gain much there by doing a burnout. not even cleaning the tires off.

on the street though, where there's all sorts of debris and what not, it's a little different. i would spin em to clean the tires, and then try to get back onto that clean line that you just started, which is the best way to get any grip when you launch...

just like in the nhra, when you "get out of the groove", you loose traction and stability...

That's exactly right. On street perf tires at the track I don't "burn out" at all. Just avoid the water from the slick guys and spin the tires a tiny bit to clean 'em up a little. Then just go for it. Burning out is only for slicks that need to be heated up. Makes 'em soft and work like they're supposed to.

thanks for the input guys. now i know that doin burnouts on street tires only makes you waste tons of money on tires with no benefits. hmmmmmmmmm

and the accord that i beat was a 89-94 model four door with an exhaust. i do'nt even know why he would even bother tryin to race me.

whoa there...

did you read what i posted?

you said you weren't at the track...
avoid the water box yes, don't do a burn out there. waste of time.

on the street, spin em a bit to get the dirt and what not off.

it'll make a difference.

and i'm not saying waste your tires. just spin it a bit...

i know all the stuff about the high po street tires not gettin burnt out and what not, and i agree, but the street is not as meticulously cared for as the sticky surface of the track.

No benefits? I wouldn't go as far to say that... I mean.. Who doesn't like a good smoke show? Plus, burn outs are AWWWWEESOME

Oh yea.. Do you think you can beat a 01 V6 4dr. Accord(slushbox), Tat?

TatII

well the thing is we want to keep the activity as low profile as we can so doin burnouts and peeling too much will only lead to cops looking for us. and for me beating a 01 accord v6 4 door? well me and my friends 01 accord coupe LX 5 speed with I/H/E are about the same, and he can beat a V6 pretty badly so the assumption would be i would do just as much damage beucsae when i beat him, i beat him by 1 car sometimes 1.5 cars. when he beats me, he beats me by .5 cars, and that time i had a loose spark plug on cylinder #3 (which i did'nt know about) so had bad compression, and my cat and exhaust got knocked out off alignment from hitting ice. now that i got all that problem fixed. with my new B and M short shifter i'm pretty sure i can beat him now.

01 LX accord 5 speed with I/H/E has to be a 4cyl. From what I hear and see, them 4 cyl Accords are pretty damn gutless. But perhaps, all those mods affect the motor that much! My van has kept up with a 4dr. 4cyl 5spd accord with at least an exhaust. He knew we were racing, but he didn't really launch all that hard. I didn't do any powerbraking either.

I've also raced my Mom's stock ass 01 v6 4dr. accord against a 01 4dr. 5spd accord with at I/E, and its pretty bad after the 1-2 shift. He was on 17's, so perhaps that affected him so greatly? We went from a standstill first, then a roll.. both times were pretty bad for him..

I just went racing in my S14 tonight. I cruised with a group: two integras, a civic, a gsx, a wrx, and a contour svt. Needless to say the wrx whooped all of us, but surprisingly the contour managed to keep up at least one length behind the subaru. Even more surprising was the fact that I managed to run neck and neck with the SVT until about 80mph, and i didnt even have a good launch! (btw i didnt race the wrx). Either the guy sucks at racing or 93 octane gives my car more than a few extra horses. Anyway it was a fun night.

BTW tatII how you likin your B+M shifter? what happened to the c-west? i just put a b&m on my car and im lovin it. i find myself changing gears just for the heck of it.

I also heard that the B&M was great from a friend who drives a ITR.

B&M shifters are fantastic. I had one on my old Camaro. Went with the Pro 5.0 this time around though.

the C west broke. the plastic bushing inside cracked, and the c ring that held the shifter in place got destroyed. as i was changing my shifter you know how you can't take out the base unless you use c ring pliers. well my whole base just came right off. lolz anyways i love my B & M but its a tad bit too noisey for me. and for the 01 Accord being gutless. i disagree. a Accord LX 5 speed with a good driver can beat more cars then you expect. when my friends LX 5 speed was stock, he was able to beat my friends auto 4th Gen max with intake by around 3 cars. so its all in the drivers.

well the MPV is not too bad either. i was changing my dads intake pipe and the freakin thing has 2 butterflys. not bad. too bad its only a SOHC 3 valve per head motor, but it does have good torque though. i know you would know what i mean. hahah the chinese people mover.
