Nismo's 340hp R-tune Z was announced yesterday at the 2003 Tokyo Auto Salon. For now it's a development prototype "for circuit use" but it's a good sign of things to come.

Nismo has equipped this car with full R-tune parts catalogue (ECU, suspension, full exhaust system, bonnet, etc) - aside from previous sporty S-tune Z33.

In case you were wondering, the 280hp limit only applies to primary manfr. which Nismo is not. It's similiar to how the Germans have self imposed limits like 155 top speed which do not apply to firms like RUF, Brabus, Gemballa, Hartge, etc. although in Germany they are considered manfr. too.

NA tuning it is.
Looks like you will be able to purchase the R1 Engine as a stand alone unit like one of GM's crate engines.
The car was designed specifically for serious track enthusiats but should be road legal (at least in Japan). I'm assuming the cats were not remove and that a large part of the gains come from proper ECu re-mapping. Some of you may or may not know but the ECU is key on the VQ35. Various sources claim the latent horsepower from the ECU alone is in the range of 20 - 50 or so hp. If parts are added and the ECU is not properly tuned it may not recognize them and default into a "limp mode" giving you less than optimal performance.

For people who were upset with having to purchase the regular bodykit - including the front bumper and lip spoiler - while it was still FRP, this one should resolve that concern. It's carbon. You didn't think Nismo would sit idle while just about eveyone had a carbon aero option did you?

 NA?!!
Maybe I was wrong about the VQ engine being low par...I hope this is a sign of things to come!
