when did you guys start modeling? when and why?

for me, like 10-11 years old doing planes, but sucked at it. gave it up until about this same time last year. got a revell f-150 cause was so bored with school, and now its like an addiction!

It all started for me when I was enjoying a delicious, tasty :spam: sandwich. I was about 6 or 7 and I remember a neighbor of mine was moving; he gave me a box filled with built kits and Hot Wheels. He told me that he built them and didn't want them anymore! I was fascinated by those kits and I was already a car nut so I wanted to learn how he built them... the rest is history!!! Mmmm that :spam: sure was delicious and tasty!:)

I just started modeling last year..
But only completed 2 so far.. now on the way for the 3rd one.

I started modeling because of the passion for cars. After building them, I can admire the car and fall even more deeply in love with them.

Modeling is cool and ADDTIVE!! :hehe:

I started modelling when I got my first Snap-tite for Christmas about 8 or 9 years ago. I remember it was a yellow Corvette. Ever since I have been addicted to cars and modelling.

I started when I was a kid in the 60's because I loved cars and models were better looking than toys-I wanted my little cars to be realistic, and I was somewhat artistic so the two combined fairly well, even though my first models...and most of them through my teens were pretty crappy. I recently unearthed a kit I built of a '62 Corvette back in the mid/late 70's...man, I was really building crappy models back then! Proves that if you stick w/it long enough and learn from the experts, they get a LOT better as time goes on.

some decades ago, about age of 8-9, an uncle gifted me a 1/8 YAMAHA motorX bike (TAMIYA). At that time, didn't know how to assemble it. Under this uncle's help, finished the kit. And found so much fun in modeling since then. But always build cars + bikes. Never build war machines.

My wish: build as many as possible and create my own gallery

I starting building cars when I was in the 4th grade, about 9 yrs old. My uncle had about 4-6 Revell/Monogram/AMT Plymouth model that he just had lying around un-built. The first one I picked up was a AMT 69 Plymouth GTX Hardtop! No paint, just the gray and it was assembled with ELMERS Glue and scotch tape.

my first kit was a revell germany boss Mustang with ~ 10 years

it was easy to build (i was ten,it was revell!  )but i havent colored it...just built out of box

sadly it broke years ago:(that was my beginning...i just wanted to check out how those things are so i asked my mom if she could get that one for me:D

Ah yes....many decades ago, about 3rd grade, my grandmother got me a subscription to the model of the month club, seriously I think it was through AMT. I had a to choose between snap-tite and glue kits, so my mom decided for me...snap-tite (this was a good choice as I had never built a kit before). My first kit was a '65 Mustang Fastback. No painting, just built it out of the box. Since my parents got me Hotwheels, Evil Kenieval toys, Matchbox cars, Slot tracks and such, this model car thing caught on like wild fire...I loved it. A few years later, dad bought me my first glur together kit and paint, an late '70's Ford truck, and he showed me the ins and outs of assembly and painting, ie he built it himself and let me watch. The rest is history...more kits than I can put together, or so my wife says, and getting more all the time. I love this hobby. I won't even go into the amount of armor kits that are in my closet.......

At 11 years old, I started building a Tamiya Peugeot 405 Rallye-raid, that I built with my father.
He wasn't a really experienced modeler, we didn't use spraypaint, made a crappy result, but hey, things you make yourself are always more pretty then things you buy.

And then the real stuff began from the moment I got my allowance!
:D

I started building kits since i was like 9 or 10, it was a 32 coupe, me and my cousin painted it with a blue permanent marker:bloated:, then i was hooked, I built lots of lowriders and domestics, then I got into the import scene(back in 97-98, before imports were cool) and lost interest in kits cause all i would see is revell and as you all know revell makes mostly domestics. Then i found this Forum and found that there were companies making my beloved imports and got hooked once again.

Sorry for the long post.:D

I started building in 1970, when I was 5 years old. My folks had just moved me to a new area where their weren't many kids. My mother always built ship models (she still turns out incredible models, many are in museums) and I loved cars so she picked-up a Corvette model one day and helped me build it to see if I took after her. The rest is history! I recently found an exact duplicate of the MPC 1970 Corvette model she got me started with, I'm considering whether or not to build it....

My dad came home with 2 model kits, one for me and one for my brother, my brother built a dodge ram and I built a corvette stingray concept, both were hand painted and built with crazy glue, that was about 7 years ago. I was a little mad cuz my car looked like a pice of crap, so I didnt build any models for about a year, then I got started agian, the rest aint important :p

i built a 57 chevy when I was 5. I pained everything red except the chrome parts that came with it. My dad painted it though, I just Dranched it with Testors clear Coat about 5 years later when i found it under my bed. Im gonna take some pics of it right now...

I had a friend who did model planes when i was 13 yrs old. I had done some modelling before that, in the form of Mini4wd, but not scale models. Started with planes, but never really liked it. Then i tried cars. My first car was the Tamiya R32, built straight from the box, bare plastic, unpainted. Then also tried bikes, quite like it. Then also Patlabor, Gundam etc.........long story......
Lost quite a bit of interest as a lot of the cars i like, in bodykits and racing trim are not available as kits. Resin maybe, but i am not going to spend >$100 for a kit. Then i found some websites on custom car modelling and AF. Then i am addicted to making modified cars.:D

When I was little, my Dads friends son gave me a model kit, me and my dad built it together, and I was hooked.

Notice the excessive use of :spam: which isn't shown? :finger:
