the transmission only makes the sound in Park, D and R sound great and run great. but the second you put the truck into drive it starts screeching, not just a little its loud.
its not a high piched sound, like a belt would be, its a scratching, metal on metal like sound.
also while in park, while the truck is just sitting there the speedometer, moves up to about 10mph, if you hit the gas it starts to clime up to, 15,20,30, thats where i stopped.
Any thoughts on what this might be, or where i should start looking.
thanks -Norick-

Are you talking about the 89 silverado in your profile?
Give us some more information.
My best guess at the moment for the trans noise is a possible cracked flex plate or loose tourqe convertor shield.
Last but not least does the speedometer do this intermittently or does it always do that. I know a lot of those did between 88 and 93, my 92 does it occasionally. This is usually a problem in the cluster.

the truck is a 89 silverado. the speedometer speeds up and stays that way. when you put in D or R, its starts acting normal again.
