If the SS concept was made a coupe and the fenders toned down a bit, would it make a good 5th gen Camaro?

Me personally I would like to see GM come up with some fresh Idea's the F-Bodys have had their chance. Sales have been down its time to try something else. Don't get me wrong I have great respect for the camaro's. I would take a 67 or 68 RS SS in a heartbeat.
Just my two cents.

I also like it a lot. I heard about this last year in Car and Driver. It looks nothing like what I expected, but it is very nice. I hope they put it into production. BTW, can anyone confirm that they are dropping the Camaros in a few years???

2002 F-Bodys are the last year. There will be no 2003 Camaro or FireBird.
A bold move by GM to say the least.

If developed more and less 350Z style, I think the Chevy SS concept would make a great new Chevelle.

What Chevy needs to do is bring back the Chevelle like Devil mentioned....
But instead of all that V6 FWD crap they produce, it would have to be the 8.1 liter Big Block on a RWD platform. Only way Chevy or GM for that matter could redeem themselves as the 'Heart Beat of America'...
That or bring back the Nova. :D

Uh huh...I'd rather not have the Chevelle cost as much as a Viper or something. 8 litre, I was thinking more of like a 6 litre or something. And no V6 option. I'm glad the GTO doesn't offer a V6 like the Firebird did. That forces out those damn V6's muscle cars that everyone keeps buying.
Again, less 350Z style, and that SS concept would be a perfect new Chevelle. On the Chevy website when you click on SS Concept, what Super Sport vehicle is shown before the Concept? 1970 Chevelle SS. Hint hint....:alien2:

Hmm, I'm not sure. I am not a strong believer in bringing back muscle cars. It could end up ruining their reputation, like Pontiac's hideous new GTO, or Chevrolet's 2005 El Camino concept. If you bring back a great muscle car, don't make it any small-engine FWD crap like someone said before. Something like this car would be fine for a Chevelle reincarnation, but don't go messing it up by being too conservative.

Well they aren't being conservative with the GTO. It's V8 and rwd, with no intentions of a V6 option. They would do the same thing with a new Chevelle.
Whats this new El Camino concept? I've never seen that before. If they ever made an El Camino they should copy it after the Holden UTE like the Manaro is copied after the GTO.

Now that is sweet. Just like the El Camino too, RWD, V8.

a Big Block muscle car these days wouldnt have to be as expensive as a Viper.
Look back at the older cars, the Big Blocks were usually a couple hundred dollars more to add on.
All they have to do is offer it as a Option, sorta like how the new trucks offer their Diesel packages. The Diesel motors cost more than the gas motors so you pay a bit... I'd pay more for a 8.1l over a 5.7l or 6.0l if I was given the option.
That or GM can start to put the 502's in everything ahh the mighty 8.2liter mmmm. Not that the 496(8.1) isnt bad.. but its no 502...

Sure it doesn't have to but it would. It would definately cost more then a Z06. The old days don't matter if they came out with an engine like that for a small car they know they could get away with selling it for a very high price. The more power you get in a car, usually the more it is going to cost you. What is that 502 got like 500 hp? Thats going to be a very expensive car.

Yeah I doubt it will ever happen.
502 specs
hp 502@5100
torque 565@3200
Cost is about 9k and out of my price range:D

Devil, that is exactly what they are doing for the El Camino concept (the same thing they did for the GTO). And what I meant by being conservative with the GTO, I meant looks. It is way too small and too similar to the Grand Am. I would never even consider buying one. They should have made the GTO look something more like the new Gran Prix. I hate GM right now...

That is not actually the Chevy concept, that is the Australian car that they are going to copy off of. Can someone please give me the link to that Aussie manufacturer's home page?

So? The El Camino was basically the front of a Chevelle with the back of a pickup truck. Looks to me more like a GTO with the back of pickup truck now. I'd pimp it.
Again the GTO has always looked similar to Pontiac's family cars, so naturally the new one is going to look similar to the new family cars of today. The Firebird has always been the only car Pontiac made that looks radically different from the others. Except when they first made it, at its beginning the Firebird used to look like a mini-GTO.
