whats up,

just wanted to let everyone know that i installed the new place racing CAI and that it looks and feels great.

i have two questions however.

1) when i get high in the RPM range i start to hear the intake instead of my exhaust. now that i can hear the engine, its sounds, for a lack of better words, floppy. it like a normal growl but it sounds like once every engine cycle (or about once ever engine cycle) it, well, flops.

could that be caused by timming or do i just need a tune up?

2) now that i have some extra power, i feel the need to punch the gas more then i used to. do you think my engine will hold up under the foot of a responsable teens driving habbits. in other words normal driving most of the time but when i want to go i REALLY want to go. do you think my car in general will hold for another 4 or 5 years? its a 94 with 106k

please hit me back about the driving habbits cause until i know, driving normally is KILLING me... lol

I had and still have that problem, the point is I don't think I do normal driving on my car anymore. It's like every since I've gotten Intake as well, I gotta hear it everytime I take off and in my mind I'm thinking "who wants to FU&% with me".. I try to drive normal and for the most part I've trained myself to even let some races go but it's hard but I love my Max and I'd be pissed if I cut her life short because of wear and tear. But if someone has the answer to that, I'd like to know also? Good question......

Just my .02 but once again since you just installed the CAI it is going to take a lil time for your ECU to re-learn your driving habits now that you have the CAI, that thing is just to smart for its' own good. Whenever you add any mods especially to eng or trans the ECU is going to have to remap the data set-up for your particular driving style.
I could be wrong but everyone that I know who has a Max and did some mods especially to the intake has had some abnormal or not out of the ordinary feeling in their cars.
It only lasted temporarily and everything is just the way they like it now.
Again just my .02

Congrats on the CAI, I know your engine will hold up, just do the regular/normal oil & filter change and use premium gas, there are Max's out there older than yours with over 300,000k on them with no more than a few minor changes to normal wear and tear items.
Good luck with the CAI> LEADFOOT<HAHAHA

My Max has 150K miles on it and I push it pretty hard. I try not too but the temptation is too great. I can't resist the power.

my max was actin a lil weird when i put mine on about 3 months ago, the gas dropped and it was soundin diff sometimes. mine finally got better about month and a half after i got it, but im sure where it was cold where i used to live that may have had somethin to do with it.

i threw the idea by my father and brother (who were both ASE certified mechanics).

they said that it could be that with the new adjustments, considering the ecu sort of thinks the engine is cooler then it is, it could be a small timing issue. he said to take it to a mechanic with all the equipment and tell them, instead of giving it a tune up, have them retune it for the specs i now have.

i think im gonna wait until i have my cat back exhaust and pulleies before i do that though. may have to do it twice.

ill let you know what happens.

thanx for the replies. i feel much better about driving the car hard. think im gonna race it tonite
