Oil Light

The first time I took my car out after getting it running I got about 5 miles from my house and the oil light blinked a few times and then stayed on. I pulled over to check it out and saw absolutley nothing except a small coolant leak. One of the hoses wasnt clamped on. So I turn around and head home. The light wasnt on at first and the after about a mile or so it did the same thing and it felt like I lost a little power. I pulled over and shut it off for a minute and then continued. I got home and checked the oil and seemed to be way over full. I know I didnt overfill it. What could cause it to do that.

Maybe ur headgasket is blown and coolant leaked in and mixed with the oil making it fill up a lot.

I considered that but the oil lookes perfect. And the coolant level is still really good. The oil would be kind of foggy looking or have bubbles in it wouldnt it

I think the exhaust may be a bit clogged, and the valves need to be adjusted pretty bad. It was really hot when I popped the hood but the temp gauge was below half. Think any of that could be an indication.

if your head gasket is indeed blown, your oil will look alot like chocolate milk once the antifreeze has mixed in, but i agree this does sound like a head gasket problem, and since it has been sitting, there is even more of a reason to think that the head gasket is the culprit

how long has the car been sitting!? cause as far as i know, if you let your oil sit for to long it can get bad, stale maybe the word that best describes it. anyways that might be an issue ... but then again i dont know shit about cars.

The only time I've seen oil level go up and the oil pressure fail is when the crankcase is getting fuel in it. This happens on cars with cam driven fuel pumps when they fail or carbs dumping raw fuel down inside whn shut down.. I can't figure out how a fuel injected, electric fuel pumped Civic could fill the sump with gas.....unless you hooked something up WAY wrong.....like the fuel return to the crankcase breather?

well..thats definetly something to think about. I pulled the dipstick and smelled it and it doesnt realy smell like gas but its definetly smelling a little more toxic than just oil. Of course its kind of hard to distinguish smells in that small of a quantity. I think this weekend I'll drain it to get a better idea. The oil is only about two weeks old and has about 10 miles on it so it shouldnt be to hard to tell.
