Ok, does anyone else think it dumb to have two SUV's out that look similar to each other? when I talk about this, I am referring to the Lincoln Aviator and the Lincoln Navigator. What purpose does the Aviator serve? it looks the same, costs about the same, and probably handles the same seeing as it really isnt too much smaller than the Navigator. Honestly, I know the people at Lincoln had money on their minds when they put this out, but if you are going to put out a new car, dont make it look like a car you already manufacture.

The Aviator is two letters short of a Navigator, but they're are quite a few differences I think.

The Aviator is a smaller rig, being based off the Explorer, rather than the Expedition, which the Navigator is. The Aviator is actually a much better vehicle all around than the Navigator OR the Explorer.

As for them looking similar, it's called family resemblance. and it's similar to the Explorer/Expedition, or the Blazer/Tahoe/Suburban

Or the older BMW line, where the 3,5,and 7 series all shared a strong family resemblance). This is common in ALL industrial design, from computers to coffee makers, to tools.

Exactly. It is just an explorer, while the navigator is an expedition. It is for people that want a smaller SUV that costs more than an explorer.

Maybe they made the aviator because they found out that some people are'nt buying the navigator because it's too big. They probably cut short the production of navigators to make a couple of aviators which would probably sell, either way, I don't care.

I think it was smart for Lincoln to come out with a smaller Navigator, but they didn;t make the two models different enough. Car and Driver pointed out the many similarities between the two, and there were more of them than there were differences. I think both are great vehicles and both will continue to sell good. A smaller Navigator for $10k less is fine with me.

what i dont understand is GM dropping its compact SUV the blazer and replacing it with a larger 7 passenger capable trailblazer. so now they have the trailblazer, tahoe, and suburban but nothing to compete with the escape, frontier, 4 runner, etc...

Go to www.chevrolet.com . On the page there will be 3 future Chevy vehicles. The middle one, the Equinox, will be put into production for 2005. That should solve your problem.
