I'm assuming you do know about Motorex already right? I would love some competition down there in LA to drive those prices down. But by your post I'm not gonna be getting too excited. It seems if you really were interested, you would know that it's probably gonna cost you at least a million bucks to get started. But if this really is something you're gonna do, I'll be sure to stop on by my next time down south!

Yep. I sure am a distributor. Every night when I goto sleep, but damn that alarm clock!! The reason I got that $1M quote was becuase motorex supposedly wants $1.5M for all their goods. That would buy you in the skyline selling business with someone else doing the work for you. If you wanted to do it on your own, it might cost less, but of course you'll have all the headaches and problems. Although, if you had the money, it would be a fun process to go through. I think $15M is way over the top. Hell, you could sell these things out of your garage, you don't even need a dealership lot. We want these things so bad, who cares where we get them from as long as they're legit. So for sure if you had $2M you could buy the info from motorex, become a registered importer, and have a nice assortment of cars to get yourself started. Oh, and can I have a job? I think you already know what my price would be! :sun: Nah, I'd just settle for a really good loan on one! Hope that helps.

If you have a million you can do it, easily.
Unlike some unrealistic post of it costing $15,000,000:rolleyes:. Oh, I forgot he knows everything. dp, The King of Skyline information. The Jack of all trades and master of none. Sarcasm it rocks.
Anyway,
I have done some research, and my wife is a laywer that would be willing to help if need be. Send me an e-mail.

Hey, dieselpower, if you knew anything about math, you'd know that 50 top-of-the-line 2001 JDM Spec-M Skylines would cost no more than US$2.6million and I'm overestimating shipping and conversion costs. Even posting a 100% bond on all the cars including shipping would be less than $5 million. Do the conversion from Japanese Yen to US$ for the GT-Rs. Jeez, BUYING MOTOREX AND GETTING 50 CARS AND POSTING A BOND WOULD BE WAY LESS THAN US$10MILLION. They sell for US$45-50K in their home market. Hell, buying such a large order would likely entitle one to a huge discount and would result in a much lower price than that. I'm sure the info and everything else could easily be gained for less than US$1million, although as super 96 accord said, it would include a ton of headaches . Hopefully a millionaire fanatic will recognize this and take a chance. Also, most of the cars at Motorex are either the owner's or customer cars.

Where are people getting these numbers from? You all are kidding me right? 15 million? WTF
Even the 1 mil is a bit high, but probably a good estimate all told, including labor and startup costs for the company.
Guys, you do know how to bond a car correct? You don't post the bond, the RI posts the bond, and you pay a percentage of it.
Reasonably, I can see the whole process completed for 500K.
If you all would like to know more about it, send me an email. It isn't hard, just time consuming.

Thanks for the complement. "damm you sure know your business ?????"
I am moving to Europe at the end of the year. That's when I will buy my GT-R and tear it down and rebuild it. I will post what I learn from it on this board, my only regret will be that you will learn from it too.

Yep, you guys all make good points, dieselpower excluded. Also, Shooter Boy, thanks for the info on the customs bond. Maybe someone here can put up some dough and partner with an RI to help out on this stuff. All I have to say is best wishes. It would be awhile before I could come up with enough dough, but I have no doubts that it could be done for less than US$500,000. Unfortunately, few folks with the will to do it have the cash, and those with the cash would likely just buy from MotoRex since they probably are too busy making that kind of money in other ventures. I hope one of you guys with the cash proves me wrong and saves me big bucks from MotoRex's prices since their prices are only going up. IMO, if their used car prices dropped at least 10%, they would likely sell tons more cars, and likely reap bigger profits. In case nobody has seen their website, 2001 cars are US$95,000 and up. Used Skyline prices were not adjusted, even though they keep getting cheaper for them to purchase in Japan. Then again, one can argue about the exclusivity factor in the US...but that's another story...

Everyone Else: I would love to be involved with a program of importing GTR's, or maybe Silvia's, Sunny's etc.
If anyone is interested, email me, we can chat. Most of my money is locked up in our Racing Program, but maybe we can figure something out, or I can contribute with my knowledge of the FMVSS, DOT, EPA and Customs Regs, and use some of my contacts to help us out.

Since when do you need ALL of that to sell a car? This is a realatively small business, NOT a HUGE mainstream car dealer...At least not yet...
What really boggles my mind is that no one has Jumped on the J-spec Car improtation scene.... There are so many cars that would sell very well to people in the import scene. Hell if we could get the SCCA to allow R34s, S15s, Tom's Supras ect... We could change Touring, GT and GTR series racing in America for a long time.
In my eyes there is alot of money to be made selling J-spec cars here. Most import mags and sports car mags would feature that kind of thing in their pages so people would definitely find out about you and your Very different cars. Who knows what could happen if there where more RIs selling J-spec cars...I am totally down when it's comes to this kind of thing. Thats what I'm going to college for... MY own shop for all cars, And selling exotic J-spec cars like the TK ZZ 2....

How am I going to sell them. If I let it be known on the internet (like right here) that I have Gt-R34's for sale at say 50k and listed my address with this, the next day I would wake up to about 50,000 crazed Skyline lovers with cash in hand beating on my door saying things like "WE WANT V-SPEC, WE WANT V-SPEC" Well, not realy but what I am getting at is the supply and demand aspect of sales. The demand is already here IN FORCE. All I have to do is get the supply, problem solved. Rent out some space in a parking garage, rent a small corner office for like 5k a month. as for all the stuff above
3) A stock of Parts to sell *I'm basicaly a used car salesmen when you think about it, do they have a stock of parts on the lot?*
4) Staff of TECNISISONS to work on the cars *Same as above*
Wait, I'm not even going to bother responding to all those, I am not a dealership, people know this... they come to me to buy a skyline for 30k less then they would normaly have to pay. They know that I am not a dealership and that if they own an exotic car in the US they will have to go through the BS to get it fixed, modded, ect.

Skylines are horridly under advertised here in the US, I think that if there were some TV commercials about then then more of a demand would be created which could motivate all the investers out there to sink some money into getting them into the US thus creating a supply to meet the demand and lowering prices all around (that damned motorex would have to lower prices if they wanted to keep their piece of the pie).
As for the need to advertise the hypothetical RI, very few people in the USA know what a Skyline is, and chances are, if you know what it is and don't have one, you are drooling over then and if there is a way to get then easiely in the US, YOU WILL FIND IT!
I know that if there was a dealer selling GTRs here in the US for say 30-50k, I would find it :P

I don't think motorex has enough money for TV commercials, i just think they need some better marketing... put some big ads in major car Magazines, that would do it
you could get an R33 skyline GT-R from motorex for around 50k

Ya, I've heard of those government programs as well. If someone were to find out the info, I'll go along with it. We could partner up and put our money together and get the business started. I already have a business license in the auto parts category if that would help at all. If we had five/six people putting their govt. money in to it, we would be up and running in no time. Oh, and we would get to goto Japan!!!!! And it'd be a business trip so it would be tax deductible!!

Why are you so negative about this? I think I know a little more about how our government works than you do. No matter happens unless we are in war time our government has to give out At least 10 Million(if not much more) to prospective bussiness people all over the US. How do you think Apple, Microsoft, Nike ect all got started?

Yeah, don't you guys watch Tv? With that crazy guy running around w/his exclamation mark jacket saying he has all the government programs spelled out in his book you can buy! I don't know about spending $XX??? for his book though. I'm sure the info is out there for free somewhere. I also have a shop out here in Northern Cali that is interested in becoming a service station for skylines. So I'm sure they wouldn't mind investing some as well.

To every one who is all for the idea of getting togather, getting Gov grants and such to start importing skylines.
This is a GREAT idea and one that can be realized with just a little hassle. I for one will play some phone tag with some govt. office and see exactialy how much money can be had, how hard it is to get, and what needs to be presented in order to get it. Also, I'm sure that we are not the first ones to kick around this idea, there are more then likely many others who have applied for the same thing, perhaps these things are on file some were to be checked out for info that would be helpfull. Another interesting wrinkle that I can offer is that if we have all our ducks in a row with licences in hand, govt approvial in hand, and a memo detailing out plans and what we have done, I am a broke collage student, BUT I happen to know several VERY NOT BROKE opportunists with 7 digit bank accounts who just might like this idea and could possibly back us. IF we have all things lined up with info down on paper so they have reason to beleave we are ready to go on this and have our shit in line so this has a good success likelyhood.
Lemme know, [email protected]

Put come metar in it and it would be freaking bullet-proof. I have some money and am ready to start testing them if anyones with me. my email is [email protected]. Lets kick some ass and then run them over with skylines with 1000hp. Thats what iam talking about.:smoka:

If you started that business and actually did some good marketing, it would be really succesful i think
like motorex doesn't have any marketing at all (it seems like) i found about motorex on here when somebody talked about it a long time ago, before that i didn't know about it, never saw any ads or anything
If you put ads in like Sports compact car and Car and Driver, I'm sure the business would blow up

:finger: :flipa: to motorex. I know what youre talking about. If we could market it smartly you could make huge money. The problem is getting started. First you have two choices: give motorex treir 1.5 million or bring over skylines and test em up and do some work on them. Then there is some other b.s. that I dont know about but anybody willing to invest in this would easily get their money back.:bandit: thanks peoples. Is there anybody willing to help to get it going with me. I have a very small amount of money but I can find cheap skylines easily.:D

Whats going on with this seriously? I am in if it does go down. I don't know what I personally need to contribute to this. I'm 20 years old. I don't have any money to invest up front. All I have is some marketing ideas and some skills with a wrench. I have no bussiness expertise really. But I know that the Skyline would sell. I want to know who really wants to do this. I do, although I don't have much to contribute at the moment, I am a smart man. It's time to get the ball rolling. The biggest factor here is trust. Who can actually trust one another to keep this business split even no mater what. Who can be trusted? Who is just looking for a quick buck?
Gonthrax: I have found a couple grants that we might be able to get as well as 100% gaarunteed (cajun accent) Loans up to 500K. How has your search gone? Besides the possible partner in Japan.
We need to start writing up a plan of action if this is going to work at all.
Key word today is TRUST.
Peace

R33,
From talking to an aid in Frankfort, (Frankfort KY, our capital, not Germany) I have found around 1.2 MILLION dollars in funding out there, now the question is, could we get all of it or would our acceptance for one grant automaticaly disqualify us for some other grants. I know this is not the case with all of them but I think it is a good possibility that that could be true.
As from what you can do, right now, I'm sure your knowladge of Skylines is far greater then mine so you will come in extreamly usefull in the search for what has to be done to convert a skyline to be legal in the US.
Anyhow, I'll keep you all informed when I get somthing concrete but untill then, if you get any info drop me a line at [email protected] and keep shooting ideas at me.

 :flash: woah. You guys sure do know your stuff. 1.2 million dollars!!!!!! ieeeeeeee. Thatll get us everything we need (hopefully). Last night I was considering taking the Lancer plan too but then I remembered that the friggin Lancer is coming in a year or two to the US. I need to move to the states because the friggin skylines dont cover Canada's safty ratings cause they are too high.I read a post saying that he got his skyline for $15 !!!!!!!!!! thats not bad :D     yeah I know you want one. If anyone is a true lover of a skyline, they will buy one.:smoker:

U.S. and Canada safety ratings are about the same, notice how we don't get all the same cars that they don't get
plus if you want a skyline, you can buy it from motorex and just drive it over to Canada without a problem, just like buying any other car in the U.S. and bringing it over

:frog: Not quite how it works. If I was to bring over a pontiac grand am then I would need to change the doors at $500 a piece and a couple of other things. You see now.:(

i know people that have brought over cars from the U.S. without a problem..... why would you have to change the doors?
could you hook me up with a link to somewhere where it says you have to do that?
anyway, you can still bring over a skyline from the U.S. just like any other car

Holy crap!
This loser's first post and it's a reply to a 3 year old thread!
And if that wasn't enough, he claims to have some "inside info" on competition from motorex in the next few years.
I have one word for you dude... DUH!!!
First impressions are everything and that being the case, you better create another account and start over moron. You just took the "stupid noob" stereotype to a whole new level.
