ya know, Im actually starting to like Mustangs. I sat down and thought to myself why I dont like mustangs all that much, and all it really came down to was the fact that it has a Ford name plate on it, which sounds like a sorry excuse I know, but more people than just me make/made that same reason for their not likeing mustangs. I guess Im an idiot for realizing this now, but the next time I diss on a car, I'll have a reason for it.

I applaud you for coming to the realization that not all vehicles from any particular manufacturer "suck".
It is true that Ford has had their share of quality and engineering problems over the past 80 years, but I cannot name a single other car company that hasn't also had their share of mistakes.
Brand loyalty is often a product of your environment. If your parents owned Ford products and had good luck with them, chances are you would develop a respect for the brand and buy a Ford yourself some day, or inherit a used Ford from somebody and drive it well. If you had Chevy parents, or Honda parents, or Toyota parents - the same thing can be said.
My father owned a 1983 Ford F-150, and it was my primary daily driver for a year or two. The front wheel fell off (sheered of the wheel lugs) and the exhaust manifold broke one day. I thought it was a piece of crap, and all Ford's fault. Ya know something? My father plowed snow with it for 4 years (on a F-150, snow plowing with a 800+ pound plow all winter long is NOT a good thing in terms of vehicle stress). It also had a 3" lift kit and 70,000+ miles of drilling, tapping, and mangling the frame from various add-ons. Was it a bad truck? Probably not. It never left me stranded, and it put up with quite a lot of abuse.
*Whew!* I'm done. =)
I just bought an '00 Mustang GT used from a local lot, and so far I am finding it to be much higher quality than I thought a $24K new sports car with a few tens of thousands of miles and 3 years should be. I'm happy.

Ford has serious issues with quality and engineering technology and safety issues as well. Everyone I know that owns a Ford, I'm talking EVERYONE! is constantly at the shop. I have many Ford friends, they're all gung ho about their cars for some unexplicable reason, like if Ford is doing them a favor. Every 3.8 liter engine ford always blows up, allong the highway smoking on the side of the road, all you see are Fords. Ford is taking advantage of these poor people that are so brand loyal, selling them a car with bubble gum construction at a high price! QUANTITY IS JOB ONE! get that mess out on the road, let the next guy figure it out. If ford was a foreign car company, they would not be selling cars here anymore. From the taurus to the mustang to the focus and escort, and of course the explorer, just try to prove me wrong on ford quality look at the stadistics and lemon books, they all say the same thing.

Pretty strong opinions. How many Fords have you owned?
Ever had the notorious head gasket failure on your Honda that six of my friends have experienced?
No manufacturer is without their quality or product longevity issues. While there are less Hondas on the recall and lemon lists, there ARE some.

Yeah, you get Honda failures when you race a Honda, but a few of my family members have owned Fords so I'm talking from experience, the worst one was my grandfathers taurus, that damn monster ate up his retirement fund, every month something always wrong. and my friend's mustang same failures on many of the same parts!

Opinions, opinions. I have owned 4 mustangs, as well as 3 toyotas and one honda. I have had basically no problems with the mustangs other then a headgasket failure on a 3.8L mustang, which was covered under a recall. Now the toyotas and honda have given me various problems, cv joints going out, seatbelts breaking, A/C going out and just yesterday the lock broke on my toyota truck:confused: Does toyota and Honda not have quality control ? They seem to have the cheapest, thinest hardware I have ever seen. Maybe I just ended up with a number of different lemons................................

Thats funny,
My family and friends have had a plethora of Fords, without any major problems other than oil changes, brake pads, clutch work, etc. Take my Supercharged 12psi 5.0 Stang, with over 150,000 miles on her, not one breakdown. Yeah, Fords are crap.
Let me ask you this dirk-diggler, how many times have you changed an oil pump, replaced a clutch, cam replacement, head work, changed a rear end out, did an engine rebuild, etc? I have done quit a few of each.

Ooooh! I"m impressed. 12 psi on a 150000 Mustang, you must press the accelerator very very softly because that’s the only way that crankshaft that is made out of Play-Doh is still in one piece, I was gonna buy a 2000 Mustang but changed my mind after my grandfather’s taurus caught on fire 2 years ago, I did a lot of research on the internet, I was appalled at how many people have the same problems. I look at all the service records of work done and redone and redone and redone to the car by the dealer, there’s no denying it, FORD HAS SERIOUS ISSUES WITH SAFETY AND QUALITY anyone who says no is just a Ford zealot and would lie to make their cars look good so they don’t look stupid. You guys are hiding something, because every family member of mine and friend of mine that has a Ford has had to do major engine, and driveline work, and most of these cars are not even 10 years old and are driven by old people that drive like really old people!
Yeah mr.skylineusa I’ve done engine and transmission work on cars I race and on cars that are over 20 years old. Ford can not go 4 years without needing something major done to it. I have a Honda that is almost 20 years old, that engine has never been opened, and no driveline components have ever been replaced. and it has twice the mileage of your mushy rig!
I do not hate Ford or their drivers, I just want you guys to open your eyes and send Ford a message to clean up their act, that’s all. But the sad truth is that Ford is like a security blanket for some of you and you just can’t let go, and Ford knows that. That's funny.

Mustangs are great cars. Any car that you plan on racing with will need routine work every now and then. Hondas have their problems, and so do mustangs.. but if you love the mustangs like I do, you will deal with the problems, and do the work it requires. I like honda's also, I used to own an 89 CRX that I absolutely loved.. it gave me about as much trouble as my first mustang (1979 5.0 302).. which wasn't much.

not to be too specific, but you are wrong about the mustang and taurus having the same motor. Try doing some more research on the internet. The taurus is FWD and uses a different block than the RWD mustang...While they are both a 3.8L, does not make them the same engine...GM has a 3.8L, but it is probably all the same to you.
To post your own extremely limited knowledge and opinion on fords, is just looking for attention, maybe the Ford owners didn't let their kids play with you, or maybe you got spanked by a mustang or taurus and now you are angry.
Sounds like someone got sold a lemon and was not smart enough to get rid of it...Don't take it out on all Fords.

oooo. The Ford 3.0 Taurus motor is peppy... My best friend, in a Taurus 3.0L would put a hurtin on my 3.8L v6 mustang.

I agree, almost every company has a problem child. Mustang... yea, might run into problems. But sometimes performance costs a toll. And if you want to say that every ford's 3.8 liter blew up. They could have already kissed their market goodbye and expect millions in lawsuits. That is far from the truth.

If you take a Mustang Cobra and put it up against an NSX or a Porsche in a 24 hour race it would fall apart within an hour. And don't even dare to compare prices because a Mustang in Europe and Japan would cost $60,000.
That Mustang chassis is not worthy of a V8 motor, the rear spaggetti suspension can't handle the torque, the front suspension is not even designed for taking corners. The interior just seems to peel and vibrate off the car because their motors are so rough. The brakes just seem to fade after 2 hard braking maneuvers. If you ask me the Mustang is a suicide boulder, all that power just to lose it at the first turn. How dare they put a GT badge on that car!
I see all these suckers ultra modifying their suspension and doing all these mods to their mustangs just to get them to handle marginally, when they could have just gotten a Corvette, what's with this obsession to prove that the Mustang can be a fast as any other car, why whaste all that money on a car that can't even leave the factory assembled correctly.
I for one am convinced that Ford has allowed mentally retarded individuals to work on their factories and dealers as well, look at those mechanics, where the hell did they come from. They look smell and talk like crack bums. I find it disgusting that Ford's slogan says "QUALITY IS JOB ONE" when it is deffinetly not.
I did not get teased by a Ford owner as a kid, Ford raped my family and friends by selling them garbage, lying to them "quality is job one" thinking that they're getting a quality product when all they got were leaky, fall apart in 3 years, death trap cars that the only reason they bought was because they could not afford something better. I hope Ford gets sued so bad that it goes out of business, that is my dream. There are so many lawsuits building up that it seems my dream will come true.

This is just retarded...NSX and some porshe are not made for everyday drivers and cannot compare to a mustang that can be driven well over 100k miles before any major work has to be done. The cost of parts is 1000 times cheaper. Porshe is not reliable either...I don't know where you get your limited knowledge, but porshe always have problems and they are $$$ to fix. The new ones have been designed more for daily driving as well as performance, so they are better.

The interior just seems to peel and vibrate off the car because their motors are so rough. The brakes just seem to fade after 2 hard braking maneuvers. If you ask me the Mustang is a suicide boulder, all that power just to lose it at the first turn. How dare they put a GT badge on that car!
This is even more retarded than your other statement...How would you know this? Do you drive a Mustang? Have you Raced a Mustang on a track? You are obviousley just as dumb as you probably look, because I don't think I have ever seen the interior on a mustang "peel and vibrate off". So You have no clue what you are talking about.

Again the stupidity of this statement is beyond anything I have ever read. What kind of a car do you drive??? A honda CRX type "GAY". Why buy that when you could have bought a Corvette? Why would any idiot buy a Honda and modify it spending large amounts of cash just to keep up with a mustang? Again your stupid..I hope you get blocked and are not allowed to post anymore. Please go away.

Mustangs might suck...
But obviously,
you're the dumbass. :D
So why are you inciting a riot in a board that you know is "MUSTANG" specific?

Isnt it sad how something that was positive in the beginning can turn into something so negative? How about you all stop bickering, or Ill ask one of the mods to close this thing. If you are going to discuss, do so without insulting each other.

a little car debate is no problem at all. But it's when you get people like dirt diggler with like 8 out of 10 posts are I HATE FORD I HATE MUSTANGS I HATE STREET RACING- these are the reasons posts get closed, and if you don't believe me, just wait till the moderator pops up... and frankly i don't even blame him on this occasion. Maybe there is still a chance to get back on topic though... So is the first next generation gona be supercharged as a GT or COBRA? i missed that?

I believe its the GT, but I cant be too sure. That would bring their GT so much higher than Chevy for once that this time it will be better than the Chevy 5.7 when it comes to hp. I think the new GTO has around 325-350hp, and the Supercharged mustang has around 400hp. But once again, Im not sure which model.
As for your comment of Dirk-Diggler, I very much agree.
ATTENTION DIRK-DIGGLER, SHOULD YOU READ THIS MESSAGE, PLEASE STOP INSULTING THIS VEHICLE, WE ARE DISCUSSING IT POSITIVELY AND YOU ARE JUST HURTING YOURSELF BY MAKING HATE-POSTS. DO NOT GO INTO A FORUM AND SAY YOU HATE THAT PARTICULAR CAR, I DID THAT ONCE AND REALIZED HOW STUPID IT WAS, AS SHOULD YOU.

The concept model they had out was a GT, but do you really think they'd put a supercharger on a GT? I don't think they are going with that, afterall its just a concept. If it had the supercharger, then that means it could come close to the Cobra as far as easy modification. Ford doesn't want that just like Chevy doesn't want their Corvettes losing to Camaros.
I'm guessing the new GT will either have dohc 4.6, or a dohc 5.0L.

Actually, iv'e heard a few people bringing up that same point about GM not wanting the camaros to outrun the vettes being a problem. I think that actually happened on a few f-bodies fitted with LS1's though. Ford is getting really scary. 400 hp, they arn't playing games anymore with chevy. I think this supercharged mustang thing is a new trend for ford, if i could remember correctly and i don't think this is going to be the last. Chevy has a tough road ahead. And about the GT being 400hp, didn't i hear that there wasn't gona be a cobra for the first next gen year? Im still waiting for either Ford or Chevy to come out with variable valve timing engines. That could give an edge to either one.

I'm confused...You guys talk like Ford has never beat Chevy...I'm pretty sure that Camros had several years chasing behind the mustang, while that may have been awhile ago, it still happened, and it is not like Ford doesn't have the technology to do it, It is just a matter of fitting the right car and motor and being able to sell it to a public bigger than a few gear heads.
Chevy gave up on their 305 because the 302 were spanking them, they didn't want to spend the money developing the 305, already had the 350, so they dropped the 305. Chevy took the easy way out if you ask me. The couldn't handle the fight so they went and got a bigger stick. Which wins the race, but looses in other ways.

Ah but MM&FF did an article where the 1993 Cobra beat the 93 LT-juan.
350 might be all that in displacement but insignificant to the 302.

What do you mean? In sales?

Yeah I guess so. GM can afford to have bigger V8s in their cars though so why not give the people what they want, as long as it makes sales. The 305 was a crappy motor though Mustang 302's had them beat in the 80's.

Well I'm pretty sure they are making Boss 302 Mustang. That might be coming out next year around the same time the Mach I was released. Whether they still produce the Boss and the Mach I when the new generation Mustang comes around is unknown.

Well you're either sure or not in this case. When talking to Scott Hoag, Team Mustang director, he stated that there wasn't much of a Boss Program going. If a 'BOSS' Mustang does come, it won't be 'til 2005.

The reason that some domestics arn't using dohc engines is because they want broad torque curves, and those sometimes affect it.

Mach 1 = broad torque curve
Bullitt = broader torque curve over GT
