i think it depends on what you plan on doing. since both cars are pretty different in almost all aspects, it's hard to determine w/ such vague details you gave us. post some info about the stuff you plan on doing w/ your car and i bet it'll be easier to decide.....

Definitely get the 240. 89-93 models will run you about 2000-5000 depending on condition, and you'll prolly get more for your money than if you bought a civic from the same era (cause civics just dont depreciate). A SR20det will cost you about $3000-$5000 with installation. So for roughly $8k you have a low 14 second car with a near-new engine and incredible rwd handling.

The only downside is 240sx reliability

you got 3 years to look for a "new car".

you came to the civic forum, what kind of answer do you think you'll get?

i prefer 240. put a turbo on the k24 and have at it. you don't need the sr20.

the sr20 is made to handle a lot more hp on stock engine internals. you can upgrade that turbo and intercooler and have a real fast car for under $10K

i agree, but it's not hard to build the k24 either.

everyone is on the JDM craze and thinks you've got to have an sr20 in that car to do anything.

i dont think you have to have the sr20 but i will tell you that everyone i have ever heard of that boosted their K motor has had problems. either blowing a rod, seal, piston ring, block, tranny, whatever it may be you name it, its all there. the sr20 is just a much more reliable, stronger motor. many sources say it could be one of the strongest 4 cylinders ever built from the factory. i for one agree. some of the craziest 4 cylinder boosted setups ive ever seen were sr20's. its just a damn good motor and a complete swap with labor could be had for 3 grand. how can you beat that???

i agree, but jdm engines make our cars look like jokes. i would love to go to japan and buy a nissan gloria. it's my VQ30 engine turbo-charged from the factory(RWD), the potential is mind boggling. and if you could get one here, you'd have people coming up to you with the most baffled looks on their faces

i'm not saying that the sr20 isn't better, but the way people talk, it's like your 240 is nothing without one.

which isn't true.

if you're going to turbo a car, you should upgrade internals anyways, and the k24 has great potential if built right.

i'd go sr20 if it was me, but that's for the right reasons, not b/c "it's JDM and i need it"
