5th Gen. Type-R?

Ok, i know that the type R didn't start till 97 with the EK, but has there ever been an "official" type-R conversion for a 5th gen?
Like something from honda themselves?
I'm asking because there is a single Civic Type-R in my area but it's a 5th Gen. It is a possibility that it's a fake but i don't think it is.
It's just plain black, honda factory color. It's got the type-R body parts, it's got the type-R badge in the proper spot and it's not a sticker or a badge but is actually painted on.
The other thing that struck me as weird was the fact that it says:
"SOHC Turbo" Now i could be wrong but i thought the type-R was a naturally aspirated DOHC.
He isn't just another ricer because I've seen the car and it is turbocharged and it is fast. I'm just wondering if he just took the time and money to do things right and decided he deserved to call his car a type-R, or if this was something that if you pay enough honda or some other company will do for you.

Nope, you can't pay honda for that and you're right, they didn't come turbocharged. I wouldn't be surprised if he did the conversion and dropped the Type R motor in there and then turbocharged it. And if you pay someone enough you can make your car look like anything you want. I really think that car's fake, so next time you see it look at the wheels. If it has 4 lugs then it's fake, if it has 5 lugs then I might start thinking that it's real. It's possible to do a 5 lug conversion, but that's going a little far.

Well if it is a fake then it's a damn good one, cause that thing looked flawless.
And although i belive they were 5 lugs I cannot be sure because the guy has either moved or stored the car for the winter(both of which are ver possible).
Either way it deserved the badge, that thing was fast and smooth as hell. Me and my cousin chased it once and it took some mighty fancy driving to keep up.

The best performing 5th gen Civic from the factory was the JDM (and NZ:mad:) only SiRII which came with factory swaybars/handling package and B16A 160hp engine.
However. with one additional mount, an Integra Type R engine will fit into the Civic chasis - cue my project.

5th Gen Civic Type R = $3 bill.
a.k.a. does not exist.
"Type R" is a brand name that Honda sells. You can take a non-Type-R car, and add all the Type R parts you like, and it's still just an upgraded non-Type-R car.

No civic type r's have ever been released in the states....therefore, look for the steering column to be on the right, and to have a 5 lug set-up. most likely, he does hav ea nice car, but is a fake. there are VERY few civic type r's in the country. an they didn't come w/ turbo...he's a fake.
