Okay, I have a 91 crx and my girlfriend has my old 94 sunbird. The sunbird's wipers are having problems and I wont let her drive the sunbird while its broken. This means she gets the crx untill i fix the problem... She's wrecked the crx before so please help FAST!
When I engage the wiper switch on the console I can hear the wiper motor trying to push the wipers, but the wipers wont move. If i get out of the car and nudge the wiper it will engage, however you have to help it the entire range, and it is choppy. Could something be loose? is the wiper motor failing? HELP!

if you take off the wiper arms the splines may be damaged and so when the motor turns it doesn't grip the arm and the wipers will stay still but the motor will work
just a possibility
hope u sort it

yeah sounds like that to me also, if u can hear the motor going, then its the gears on the wiper arms are shot, so they need to be replaced.

I know this sounds stupid but it could also be the bolts holding the wiper arms on ... someting to check, sometimes the littlest things are over looked.

It could be any of the things above...however, more likely it is the linkage that has failed. If the linkage has popped off or is loose, you will see symptoms similar to what you describe above. I had my wipers hanging on the drivers side mirror for a while :bloated:
I dunno about crappy GMs, but on our Civics the motor is way over by the front corner of the pass. side windshield. - there are two linkage arms..one from the motor to the pass. wiper, and then another from the center wiper to the driver's wiper. The linkage (lightweight aluminum) is generally a simple curved/bent tube with holes in the end that are secured to the arms with stupid plastic buttons over a greased round nub. The plastic buttons crack and break with age then the linkage falls off.
I went to a junkyard and ripped the linkage off another Civic when mine failed and I got tired of trying to get the parts guy to understand the part I was looking for. With GM dealers as abundant as 7-11's, you may not experience the same difficulty as I did. If you aren't driving the car, disassemble that shit and take it with you to match up.
The Civic has lots of plastic shields covering all that shit up, and it is kinda hard to get to, but you should be able to figure it out once you expose the issue.
Good Luck - no wipers suck
