In search of lighter rims

hey, I'm posting this for a friend. He really wants to get the Enkei CDR9 17 by 7s and he's set on that 8 to 10 spoke look. But the thing is they weigh 21.5 lbs each! Does anyone else know of a lighter wheel that looks anything like this? Thanks for your imput.

Yeah, KONIG heliums. Im planning on getting these too. they are 8 spoke and the 15's are 10 lbs. They also just released 17's that are between 16 and 17 lbs. Youre obviously going for performance if you want light rims, so dont half-ass, go with the 15's. You cant have show car looks and race car performance at the same time. This doesnt mean that a fast car cant look nice, but you cant have some body kit and big wheels and expect to still perform. Dont forget light tires too.

yeah i was leaning toward the heliums, but im probably gonna get them in 16s or 17s and they're still extremely light. What are some good light tires that don't cost that much?

Well if you get the 17s, the tires are gonna be heavier too. Because they are low pro, they have steel sides for protection. I found all yokohama tires over 20 pounds regardless of size. Im planning on some falken ziex's which were the lightest I found, but that was for the 15's. If you go with the big tires, youre going to end up with wheel and tire wieght that is more than stock. That cant be avoided unless youre shelling out mad dough for some racing spec setup. Thats what I dont understand about the wheel game, it seems like knowone knows this but I brought this up so many times with no definite answer, check old posts. The difference between 15's and 17's are as follows. 17's have like 6 more pounds on them and the wheels are like like 4 pounds+. Thats 10 more pounds per wheel times 4 wheels is 40 extra pounds! I'm telling you thats a waste. You stock setup is probably in the 30's. Of course its all your decision, I'm just trying to enlighten you so you don't realize this after you spent the money.

no no i completely understand where you're coming from. Thank you for the input, but i'm probably still going to go with the 17s cause i like the looks of them alot better and i'm not just going for the lightest car possible. Whad do you think are some good low profile tires for 17s that wouldn't be used in the winter and are under 100 each?

btw, those are the prices for the 215/40's. and im assuming you want performace since you were concerned with light rims, so id say go for the parada's or sumitomo's(given the ratings i read)
