what's up with metal plated?

like the title describes what's up with that? do tamiya's metal plated bodies have any appearance advantages to them? all i can think of is that the metal plated version of the selected few kits may be somwhat more rigid than their plastic counterparts. ??? :confused:

The metal plated kits do not have the mold lines removed, so you will marr the pre-painted surface during the normal body prep.

I guess they're for 'lite' modelers, who just want to assemble the car for display...

I was wondering if you could sand the mold lines off with really fine sandpaper, then polish it out. I guess not, since you'd be removing the metalplate on the mold lines.

Damn I'm glad to see this thread. I was damn sure thinking about buying one of those metal kits. I'll stick to plastic.;)

I was at the hobby shop just the other day and noticed some Tamiya kits that were "metal plated".I was going to buy one( I think it was the 250Z) but wasnt quite sure what they meant by metal plated or whatever the exact words were.

Am I right in assuming that they are basically just the normal kit, just that the body is plated? Its not like the body is die cast or anything right, because that just doesnt make sense.

Listen to Jay, they still have all of the mold lines, which totally sucks. I got the S2000, but not cause it was metal, but since it was the only S2000 they had in stock. If you preffer all the ugly mold lines, then fine, get one!
