getting codes for misfire

Ok, I posted a while back on my 99 max "stuttering" some when the engine is at low RPM. I got alot of feedback and tried manythings, but got no real results.

Yesterday, got someone to read codes and I got these 2 codes:
P1320: Ignition Signal
P0300: Multiple Cylinder Misfire

I am planning on taking it into my mechanic next week but while I arrange for borrowing a car (boy am I going to feel gay driving a minivan...) I want to see if anyone can give me an idea on how serious this is.

I recently changed my spark plugs and that did not affect it so I don't think they are the problem. Since the max has the distributorless ignition system I am wondering if one of them is defective and not firing?

Anyways, I would apreciate any feedback I can get.

If youre lucky, the crank position sensor might be not working well, and replacing it might fix everything

Well, I took the car into the shop today. Hopefully it is simpe. I will post what they say the prob is once I get it back.

Not that anyone is reading this thread, but I decided to post my results anyways.

All that was wrong was the coilpack on cylinder #2. That plus resetting my airbag light (That I triggered replacing the blower moter) only cost me a bit over 200.

I am happy cause I have my max back. Boy I love this car!

I have a 99 max with the same issue. The codes were 302 2Cyl. Misfire with 325 Knock Sensor, and 1320, 20sec time on ignition.

Anything out there similar?

I just learned that the most probable problem to that is a faulty sparkplug wire or the coil of one or more of your cylinders, as you might know that every sparkplug has its own coil.

I'm having the same problems in my 99 max. I got codes for Cylinder misfire, ignition signal, and knock sensor. I also have a blinking air bag light and a mostly non-functional blower. Anywho I figured I'd start with replacing the ignition coils and spark plugs. Where the F are the things? I ordered the repair manual and I think I found three of them. Are the other three under the intake manifold?

The forum really helped on this. I took the car to Autozone and had the codes reset after replacing the spark plugs. In discussing the misfire gripe with a Nissan Mech he said that this was from a faulty coil on the individual spark plug cylinder. For anyone who has changed spark plugs on the Maxima, depending on the year, the coil is a 4 inch rod that makes contact with the sparkplug. This is removed by two screws on the top of the crank case and detaching the bayonet wireharness.

To fix the cylinder misfire gripe because of a cylinder coil going bad, replace the coil. This can be purchased at autozone for $64. This operation is a 2 on a scale of difficulty to 10.

When the light goes back on I will consider replacing the coil. The guy above feels lucky to have spent only $200 for one. Perhaps this can help someone else.

I got the same problems, sept mine only throws a code of P1320, nothing about cylinder misfire etc. I wish it had that way I would know which coilpack it is. My problem is intermittent too, it only does a shitty start once a week if that, rest of the time it runs fine, and alot of the times when it does it it will only stutter for a few seconds then smooth out. Its been 3 months now and Its just really getting annoying. Along with the GD squeaky belt/pulley im getting really pissed off, considering I had all that shit replaced when I bought it with 27K on it a year and half ago and now I got like 42K...!!!!! shit is going to quick in my opinion.

i also heard about having 1 or more bad coils can result in bad engine wear, piston damage, cam damage and more. is this true? so it is wise to get it taken care of promptly.

It is always wise to get anything concerning your engine or trans corrected promptly young grasshoppa.

As far as piston and cam damage as a result of bad coils, I'd say that it is possible to lead to some damage, maybe not the major but I've read over at the orgy that there were some who were riding with a bad coil for thousands of miles and nothing else went bad in their engines.

However, I don't recommend challenging it, rather changing it out and ensuring your VQ runs like the champ it was meant to be.
