Interior Questions

How come my DX has the SI setup. I have everything the SI has except the seats. I also dont have the rear speaker holders but other than that I have the SI setup. And I know for a fact the previous owner didnt switch the interior to a SI. Is this common for the DX to have a SI setup..if not how many were made like this?

Define Si setup.

Yeah other than seats what the hell is the real difference. My car had rear speaker holders, it was an option for any DX (maybe even STD), some Sis don't even have them.

You also dont have a sunroof, DPFI, different tranny, came with different wheels, no tach, different steering wheel, no clock, no mirror, black bumpers, different exhaust...

I have the clock on the dash. But I didnt think that came on the DX. Also my car came with the SI wheels.

We are talking interior here, not all the differences. Sunroof makes the chassis less rigid so I'm glad I don't have it. I have Slipstreams, Mugen Steering Wheel, and HKS Exhaust, so who needs Si stuff when I would be replacing it with better aftermarkte stuff anyway. And I have a tach, mirror, and painted bumpers, all of which costs hardly nothing.

Well, those are put on by you. The topic of this thread, is his DX is similar to a Si. He also said he knows the previous owner didnt swap anything. So it sounds like he is implying the car came that way, when in fact it didnt.

It has nothing to do with adding aftermarket parts.

Speaking of No Tach... my cars a CX (the guy i bought it of of said it is) but i think its a DX (the cars canadian so thats why the CX, its the Std up here) but ne ways... my car doesnt have a tach either, is it possible 2 buy an aftermarket tach like one of the 5 1/2" ones with a shift light and still be able to hook it upto my car? and if my cars either the CX (std model) or DX would that explain not having a stock tach?

yes, you can install an aftermarket tach, but i would honestly have a Si cluster with the tach built in then have the five 1/2 inch spaceship tachometer, im my opinion (im not flaming anyone, this is just my opinion)the 5 1/2 tach makes the clean lines on the dash look hella cluttered and just bad. but if you decide to take the aftermarket route take out your cluster and find the wire on the bigger harness that is solid blue, no stripe, just blue, and that is the tach signal wire

aight sweet thanx! so its just the one solid blue wire?? that sounds very easy. yea i'm gonna go for the spaceship tach lol i dunno wut it is about them but i like the looks, i saw a guy who has one in his rex and i thought it looks awesome so that might be why, maybe i'll get a smaller one tho with a smaller shift light or a built in shift light, i could also prolly mount it to my steering colum, i've seen cars like that b4 and it wont take away from the lines on the dash. just some ideas i got now lol but thanx a million for the help:sun:

I don't know about you but not only the looks, but the fact you have to look over at the tach which is going to be on the outside of the steering wheel would be more of a hassle than just looking through the wheel and seeing the Tach and Speedo to.

yea i thought about that, but u can also mount the tach on top of the steering column so its right infront of u and u can see the speedo as well... but then again.... who cares about speed? lmao

I have a Made in Cananda 1989 Civic DX. I live in Jax, Fl.........it has the clock and rear speakers. I'm sure yours was a speacial order vehicle. Unless someone has the original brochure, then who's to say those things you have weren't optional. I sale New Toyota's and you can take a base model and turn it into a higher model with options but it's still badged the lower model. With that said there's gonna be certain things the higher model will have that can't be available on the lower models.........i.e. 88-91 Si gets mpfi and Short ratio gear tranny and sunroof.....i know i'm leaving alot out but i didn't want to get deep into it!!

Peace
Joe

i even have a tach. but i do have mpfi..no sunroof and different bumpers..other than that i have the SI. And the guy who had it before me was an older guy who bought it just to go back and forth to work to save gas.

the dx and si have the same bumpers, only the Si adds a small rubber lip on the bottom. the Si also adds body colored mirrors (passenger mirror included), body colored door handles, different interior, clock, tach, sunroof, different engine, and different wheels..14's

The clock was an option, so I imagine the speaker pods were too.. Do you have an Si steering wheel? I mean, what makes your interior so "Si", because it has optional stuff?

I know the clock was an option, I was talking to an old Honda mechanic who's favorite model was the 4th gen, he said it was like a $120 some-odd option.. He had a bunch laying around and he just gave me one.

The reason your car has those options is because either they got them from the dealership or they went to a junkyard and pulled these parts for their 4th gen. After all, All 4th gens can accept parts from other 4th gens(of the same body style that is.. and sometimes others depending on the part).

My 90 std now has a dash clock, a lighter, a passenger side mirror, rear speakers, center console, 5spd tranny, and a full black cloth interior (to be installed soon.. i hope)... All of this came from a few wrecked 4th gens at the local pick-n-pull!

MY 90 dx has............si tranny,si seats,si instrument cluster with tach,si steering wheel,si clock,si rear antisway bar (dx's and std's don't have them)si front lip,si mpfi swap with 89 teg ls ecu..now to either install the moonroof or sell it......debating...I've never seen anything but an si stock that is with those options...but then again I live in wisconsin.....ha
