(((Brake noise when I brake)))

I have had this 2002 Cavalier for about one month. It is a 2 door 2.2. Lately when I first start driving and brake, there is a sound that comes from the front of the car. It has to be coming from the brakes I would guess. I was wondering if anyone had the same sound in their car, and if it is something that I sould consider serious? It could be the ABS?!?!? It is a pulsing sound goes away the more that I drive, but comes back when I start up again. I live in cold weather if that is a factor. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated! THNX!

Could be anything, take it to the shop and have them check for any DTC's that may be stored in the computer.

I have heard that performance brakes squeak and slip a little until you warm them up, but if it's a new car that can't be the case. I don't know.

have the rotors resurfaced. when u first replace the breaks the breaks will grind against the rotors until they are resurfaced. any break shop can do it for u for pretty cheap. not that bad. its not replacing the rotors just resurfce.

Does the sound you are hearing sound like a mouse dying??? lol it sounds funny but I am hearding sounds coming from my front end too of my 2002, 2dr. 2.2 Liter. I recently put 17" rims on and then a few weeks later had new brakes put on the front and thats when the sound started. When its wet out I dont hear the sound. Do you have that problem?? I was thinking that when my rims got put back on they got put on wrong. But other than that I dont know??

without driving the car i can only guess whats going on. do you know what abs feel like when it engages? if not drive down a gravel road and jump on the brakes hard and hold the pedal down the abs if fairly violent when it engages and you'll know. more likely than not your rotors are starting to warp it doesn't take much to cook a set of rotors on a cavy warped rotors are more of a smooth pulsation that increases in frequency with speed. if you still think it's the abs pull the abs fuse and go for a drive. most abs problems are related to the wheel speed sensors getting contaminated with metal particles. if you determine it's an abs problem give them a all a good cleaning there's one for every wheel. good luck!!

Pulsing noise? (clicking?grinding?chirping?scraping?)
Bigger rims (Way bigger than the car was intended to have) are hard on brakes because they're harder to stop. (The momentum thing-bigger rims=more mass further from center=the brakes working harder to stop them spinning. The brakes stop the WHEELS-The wheels stop the car.).
Try a set of pads that are harder (semi-metallics, maybe, so they don't wear as quickly).
Check your rotors for heat-sintering (Burnt-looking/red/blued metal, etc.
Harder pads and heavier, bigger-finned rotors can make a helluva difference when it comes to heat dissipation.
If you're hard on your brakes-it doesn't take long to destroy a set of pads or cook a rotor like somebody up there said already.
Yer pads might just be worn down and the wear indicator is singing it's song.
If you're hard on brakes-ya mighta warped a rotor as well and that'll make noise every wheel revolution.

I finially got rid of that sound I was having with my brakes. I found out that my rotors needed cleaned. i got them off and took a wire brush to them and now i dont have the squeaking sound i was having.

We "had" a 2003 Cav. 2 door with 2.2 and it was having a noise from the brakes all the time only started happening after the rotors warped prematurely and the dealer turned them. Called GM and reported problem they told us to make an appointment for another servicing and we did so. The appointment was for 4/12/04. The brakes caused an accident that totalled the car on 4/11/04. Take your car to a garage and have it checked for warped rotors. This would be my first guess. Hope it helps. Any questions, comments or info would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance!
