This could be a stupid question

I want to reset my ECU. I know the steps for the easy way. (not using the computer you plug in) The pulling the fuse way. anyway, I can't find the fuse. I have a 97 DX. do i even have an ecu? cuz I sure as hell can't find the fuse for it.

Yes you have a ECU, it is under the floormats on the passanger side. When I need a reset, I just undo the + cable to the battery for a good 30 minutes.

Also remember when resetting the ecu, when you put the cable back on to the battery and start the car, don't touch the gas pedal. Let it idle for a few minutes so that the mapping in the ecu can take full effect.

In my 97 EX there is a fuse box under the hood.. There is a fuse in there that says radio bakup (or something like that I pulled it for a couple of seconds and it reset my ECU and the CEL went out..

It won't give the ECU an accurate reading. Or more so, it won't map correctly. The reason is because when you reset it, the computer is taking high's and low's to see where the engine is operating nomily. If you rev it, it throws everything off. So when you connect it back, turn it on and leave it running by itself for like 5 mins I believe. Then use as directed!:D

Thanks Dezoris. The reason I wanted to reset it witht he fuse and not unhook the battery is because I didn't want to lose my stereos memory cuz I had all the stations set, and they were all labeled, and I have over 80 CD labels stored in the head unit too.

I don't know about your car, but I have a 2002 Civic and it has two fuse boxes...one under the hood, and one under the streeing wheel. If thats the case, that's probably why you couldn't find the ECU fuse.

Well, the problem was I was looking for a fuse labeled "ECU", and that's why I couldn't find it. it's all set now though
