It was the airbrush who was the trouble maker!

Hi all,

A rather long (but worth reading :rolleyes: ) update on my modeling progress lately.

As you can see in my sig, the percentages on my projects have gone up a bit - sorry no digicam, no pics - but... I nearly got out of the hobby :bloated: (a joke of course but so frustrated I was at some point) cause I seemed to have lost the feeling of doing a good paint job with my airbrush. I wasn't really happy with the yellow Promarkt paintjob, so I decided to leave it for a couple of weeks and took the Fujimi 300CE Merc as my third project (I always have 3 running projects on which I work simultaniously). Did the chassis and interior - all finished and AOK - and went on to the bodywork ( kit is an easy, quick build kit ) I just needed that to get a bit distracted from the heavy decalling jobs lately (carbon fibre etc.) So back to the 300CE bodywork. Turned out a complete mess. Drips all over the place, paint wouldn't spray, then a little bit, oh :mad: nothing worked. paint job destroyed...

I left it there, slept over it and the next day I took my complete airbrush (Badger 150) apart - this time not for cleaning, is clean enough - but for mechanical inspection. And what was the outcome? The spray needle was a bit (0,5 mm) bent is an S-form way. I guess after 10 years of fullfilling is duty so well, I decided to leave me there. Thank G.. Badger did supply a spare one in the box. Got the new needle in and TADA!! back to normal. The Promarkt got a new - this time good one - coat of yellow and the 300CE is in the oven cleaner.

so to all newbies, if things doesn't go according to plan, don't panic!! sleep over it and you'll find a solution - there's always one. ;) Also we the more experienced guys run into trouble every now an then.

Huudo I am glad things work out for you. Since I see you are building tamiya kit and have an airbrush i need some advice from an experience modeller. I just bought an iwatta dual airbrush and I am about to start building a r390 kit. I am using tamiya paint and I have a question about the ratio one should use to apply the paint. What is a good ratio in your experience with thinning out the paint. If you could tell me how to do it that would be great for I am a noob in an airbrush. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Oh I also wanted to know what kind of carbon fiber decal did you use and where might i be able to get some and the brand.

Guido, now you will have no excuse for not working on your beautiful models fast (look at Bob's Porsche for an example of quick modelling) :):):) I really would like to see more from you.

BTW, how's the weather in Belgium? It's -20C here! :eek: - but thatnkfully, it's even colder in Finland :p

I know you would. But lete me assure you, you'll get some pics this month. Hopefully the 300CE and maybe an SLK but surely a Golf Cabriolet MK1 that I finishing for a friend. The thing is that I don't have a digicam, and probably won't buy any in the near future, so I have to ask a friend always. Also I don't have as many time as others to spend on the hobby - business, house, children etc. So normally I finish 3 to 5 models a year. But this year I aiming at finishing a model a month, so ... be patient a bit :D

It nevere get that cold over here. We are just around freezing point during the day, a very little bit of snow and minus 6 to 10 at night, so no big deal. Over at Warren's it's mid-summer now!! (I guess)
