Hey all,
I've read the past few posts about programming a new keyless entry for the Grand Am (mine broke) and I am getting the idea that i'll need a tech 2 scan tool to get the job done.
But I am thick headed and in denial - I don't want to let my girlfriend blow $50 to have it reprogrammed if there is anyway I can do it on my own. And I don't know anyone that has a scan tool.
a Post by mitchy_v on 8-24-02 listed a procedure that puts the system into programming mode by turning the key a few times on and off (see post for details). I found other posts by jgillham (and by others on other mb's) saying that a scan tool is needed 4 sure.
I'm looking for a definative answer here to find out if I can do it on my own. Here are my details:
2001 grand am SE
FCC ID on the remote: hoblear1xt
THanks in advance,
-Rob

Rob, sorry I did'nt get back to you sooner, I talked to my buddy over new years who is a tech at pontiac. He says the there is no way to get around having to use a scan tool. I have seen the procedures that mitchy_v has been posting and they are not vehicle specific. Though I do help with other areas of technical concern the 1998 and up GM platform Keyless entrys are my specialty. I know this is not the answer that you wanted but thats the way most Pontiac and Oldsmobile cars are.
I feel GM really blew it here, there are some vehicles that have a scan tool method and a no tools req. method but not this one.
Have a good one.
