Hey guys, I went to my local model shop that just reopened, I hadn't been there for years and they mostly have been dedicated to RC cars and Airplanes but still have a good selection of 1:24(etc)model cars. I was looking around and didn't find any Tamiya products that everyone talks about here and then I asked them if they had any. The new owner(the father who owned it just passed away and he was very well known in the area with this model airplanes and was very liked) who is his son and wife are running it now and the son told me they don't stock Tamiya because it is very expensive but they can order for me if I wish. He showed me there 2002 catalog but it seemed like it only had RC cars, then trucks, planes, army vehicles, but no 1:24 cars :(. I mostly just glanced at it since I was supposed to be at work ;) but then I saw accessories in there and it looked like it was only for RC cars. I was curious are Tamiya really that much more and is it usually cheaper to buy there products at a store or off the web? Thanks inadvance!

P.S. I will most likely buy from the store unless there prices are extremely higher because this store has helped about my dad, brother, and I many times.

Tamiya is not that expensive

it depends on where u live.
A tamiya supra costs around $15 whole sale and u can get it at some hobby shops for about $16- $25
on the web it is much cheaper usually

also usaully if a hobby shop has a web site ... it is cheaper to buy off the web site

such as www.leisure-time.com

it is $16 for tamiya supra on the site but $21 in store:( i dont know why this is

some places over charge a lot on Tamiya products.
the 3000 gt VR4 at my local hobby store is $24
but on hlj it is only like $15

the cheapest place no matter wherre u get stuff from is www.hlj.com

i have talked to several places about buying model cars wholesale
, they have told me they can get caars cheaper at hlj

i hope this answers your question

The first 1/3 or so of the Tamiya catalogue is fully dedicated to their 1/24 scale cars. Surprises me that you didn't see them.

Tamiya IS pricier than other model kits, but it is all about quality. You get what you pay for.
