My brother in law seems to think that a stock Cobra tops out at 185 mph, I don't think so, is this true?

Okay, here's what I found over at www.supercars.net
94' Mustang Cobra-140-mph
99' Mustand Cobra-149-mph
00' Mustang Cobra R-175-mph
Anyways, the other Cobras on the site don't have the top-speed times. I would imagine a 03' Cobra would top out at about 170-mph. They have a supercharged modular pushing 380-hp flywheel. But I highly doubt 185-mph stock. However I might be wrong so don't quote me.

Your right, except for the 03 svt cobra tops out at 155 stock.

Cool, yeah it was just a wild guess. Man I would've thought with 390-hp it would top out at more. That kinda sucks...

It has the power to exceed 155mph without problem, just does not have the body design. It is limited by its computer not to exceed 155, the same for the rest of the cobras, limited to their respective top speeds by artificial intervention.

Thanks fellas for all the replies, I drive a Max and have a lot of respect for Mustang drivers and I just wanted to clear up a point with my brother in law and you guys help me do just that.
Appreciate all the info and speedy responses.
I knew a Cobra just as well as any other ungoverned car can do a higher top speed than posted or what the factory allows, we just wanted to clear up the issues about stock top speed.

the 03 will do well over 170 stock, and is limited by 2 factors.... 1st SVT limited it electronically, easily fixed with a chip.. BE CAUTIONED THOUGH..... a 747 airplane lifts off @ 160MPH :jump: and so will your new Cobra, which brings me too reason #2, You need additional down force to exceed 160.... ie: 00 Cobra "R" rear wing and front splitter.:thinkerg:

Appreciate that fact again, I just knew it wasn't 185 stock top end. I just downloaded a video on Kazaa where a car was going about 215 and went airborne (RX-7) it had no wing stabilizers front or rear. That thing took off went about 10 feet in the air landed upside down and slid for a good 300 feet, the parachute deployed while it was sliding upside down and brought it to a stop.
That was a trip, word to the wise>you need downforce over 160 and most definitely at 215.
