Im looking into redoing the entire interior of my 98 Civic coupe and i was just wondering if anyone had any tips from already doing it. I want to color the plastics black and silver/grey and recover the dash in black vinyl. Also wondering how hard it is to reuhpolster the front and back seats. Any help is appreciated.:)

take my advice if you paint the dash you will regret it...why dont you get a GSR dash or an ITR dash and put it in? That would look killer...and in response to the seats DONT USE VINYL its cheap it looks cheap and it feels cheap...
These are Katskins Leather Covers...They are real leather and make the car look very nice. This is a picture of them on my 2000 Civic Si

Is it possible to recover the dash in vinyl or suede or other fabrics. I want to color coordinate the entire car and part of that is all the plastics and headliner and carpet and dash and panels......so its inevitable that im gonna do it. I just wanna do it the best way possible. I saw this nice civic Si interior on one of the links for the interior/audio/security FAQ post. Ill post the link when i find it. Has anyone replaced the bulbs in there dash ever?

I bought the Katskins from someone who already installed them, just do a search for katskins, I believe the entire leather setup including arm rest and door panels was around $700 shipped.
In response to the lights...what kind of Civic do you have? a 99-00 Civic Si or other model? If its an Si its a pain in the ass to change all the colors if its an EX or lower then its semi easy just replace the bulbs, I would reccomend you replace the bulbs with LEDs so it shows up brighter you would be happier in the end.

Not sure, look around...I doubt it...you can get some high temp blue paint and paint the blubs, it might last...

So u dont think there is a way to buy bulbs the same type as the oem ones ?
Where would i get this paint?

Well look at Auto Zone, if they have blue replacement bulbs then get those otherwise at Auto ZOne they sell High Temp Spray Paint. Buy that and spray paint the bulb, it most likely wont fade because its high temp but it will dim the lights considerably...

Can I ask why? What color are you planning on doing it? Whats wrong with the way it is now...if you really have to DONT SPRAY PAINT IT....you will regret it...I suppose you can have it professionally dyed but I dont see why...it looks good factory to me...

The factory color is quiet ugly actually and i wanna either make it black or grey.

I say go ahead and DYE the dash. I just dye'd mine and the results are excellent. infact, my dash came out so good it looks professional. and to top it off, i did the dash while it was inside my car in 50 degree weather. Dye'ing the dash is really easy, cause instead of paint having to stick onto the vinyl, it actually sinks in and permanently colors it. Works like a charm, won't crack, the company claims it won't fade...i'm extremely happy with it. Here's a pic of my door with the same vinyl dye that i used on my dash on the upper vinyl part of my door.

I know it's a dumb question but can you use the dye on your ceiling as well?
And did you remove the parts you were dying from the car before hand?

I got the dye from g2usa.com . its expensive, but it works extremely well. I'm not sure if there are any equivelent dye's out there for cheaper, so thats why i've stuck with g2. I did remove my doors before i painted them, but for the dash, i just taped off EVERYTHING, the windshield, steering wheel, took out all the pieces from the dash that could be taken out (air vents, radio, gauges) and went at it while it was still inside the car. and no, you can't dye the headliner, because its cloth. Well, maybe they have cloth dye out there, and you may be able to use that, but you can't use the vynil dye on cloth. Believe me, i tried. The color doesn't come out right and it doesn't sink into cloth like it does on vinyl. scarlemthugh, i posted a pic of my door, maybe you can't see it. I'll post pics of my dash and the rest of my interior once they are developed. thanx for the interest guys, makes me feel good about the job i'm doing! :)

Yeah I can see your door......it looks very professional:) good job. Hopefully mine will turn out like that. I have a black civic and im either gonna do black wit silver accents or vice versa. What do you think?
civic98stunna
01-29-2003, 07:50 PM
either would look tight, but i think it would look REALLY tight if you did silver with black accents. it'd be a lot more work, but it would look sweet!

yeah thats what I was thinking. Ill hopefully dye the Dash Silver and then go from there. Im gonna put in blue neon accents around the car aswell as replacing all the bulbs with blue bulbs or leds:)
