best intake?

What's the best intake? Like performance and sound wise. I don't know which is better; Injen, JWT, PR, Stillen, or Weapon R, and any others that are good.

i have the place racing CAI. i think it sounds nice and u can tell the performance gains are there.

I have frankencar. Sounds awsome. Feels awsome.
CAI(Injen, Place Racing): more low end gain. slight loss of top end
Hybrid(FrankenCar, Weapon R): more top end gain. NO low end loss.
Filter(Stillen, JWT): more top end gain. slight loss of low end
The CAI and hybrids sound the same. Filters alone aren't as loud as with the pipes. DEFINITELY GO WITH FRANKENCAR($137 shipped)

For the frankencar do i have to get a midpipe seperate? and what's the deal w/ the Apex-I filter, need it or don't?
TheMax95
12-29-2002, 11:49 AM
The kit comes with the midpipe and the filter and everything you need to install. Don't get the Apex filter it's just a waste of money. $137 is for the k&n included. But if you feel like paying $60 more for a the Apex, then get it. No difference in performance or sound, just looks better.
Check www.frankencar.com for all the info you need
Here's a pic of my FrnakenCar intake with the k&n filter:

i got a weapon-R. a representative told me i could expect to get 10-12 hp gain's with my intake. it's got carbon fiber pipe(less heat conducive) and a hyper filter. I have a video with sound of me running my car with an intake and exhaust. i'll send it to you if you want to hear it. All you can hear is the intake screaming

it would prob be a good idea to get one of the ones they r talkin bout, mine was 215 plus i had to drill and 3.5 inch hole into my fenderwell to so that the CAI would go in.

another thing to remember is that you have to get an air bypass valve with the CAI. since the CAI is basically outside the car it is exposed to water. if it sucks any up, kiss your engine goodbye. the air bypass valve will eliminate that threat
97wvmax
12-29-2002, 05:28 PM
with a CAI the only way that u would suck up water would either to have some1 spray a hose into it while running the car, or if u drove thru a deep body of water.ive had mine for a few months now and gone thru rain and snow and havent had any problems

Yeah, the splash guards under the car pretty much eliminate the need for an air bypass valve. You shouldn't be driving in flood waters or monsoons anyway.

Show a picture of how you cut the 3.5 inch hole, because I'll probably get in more air myself if I made a hole as well. My car would haul ass even more then.

Thanx for yalls input. I've also been checking the .org forum. There was a guy on there w/ a 2k2 and had the K&N filter and it screwed his MAF up cause some oil got down in it. So i'm sticking w/ the frankencar but i'm gettin the Apexi filter. I'll let yall know how good it is, but i'm not ordering it til next week cause I need another $50 and my b-day is this Sun. (Jan. 5).:D

Apparently you don't have any sembalence of what the hole is there for. Its not for more air, its for cooler air. If you have a Maxima without foglights, you are pretty much getting a straight on stream of cooler outside air than air from under the hood. It is well known that the cooler the volume of air, the more molecules it will contain amking a denser charge. Hence the advent of the COLD AIR Intake. :right:

hey cuz....you can do your own intake, is very easy and cheap!!! i have made my onw intake few days ago, and sounds cool. In dynos my car with the intake was the same with frankencar and with my own made. Dont spend your money in brands intake, is the same, just you will need:
3" pipe(autozone, pepboys, exhaust stores)
2 hose adapter(lowes) you can figure out what dm is....by looking your hose
1 hose adapter...is a little samall than the others 2
2 clasp adapters....
1 filter-maf adapter...you can do it by you won easy
and thats all men.....so try i spend 16.90 box and 40 for the k&n filter:devil: :smoker2:

Actually the ghetto modbox is the best intake besides the WAI, others will argue this point but its' already been proven and it doesn't cost any money to do it.

You can buy a midpipe seperate and the intake comes with a K&N Filter, but you can get an Apexi for a little more.

I got Injen Racing Division CAI on my 97 Maxxie. Im happy with it. And I spent only 75 bucks on the intake and 35 on K&N filter (bought separate from each other)

When do you feel the most power? Low or top end?

From the results gained it appears that the Ghetto Mod is the best intake this side of the WAI regardless of what our buttdynos tell us.

Here's a lil more info on the GAB mod:
GAB = Ghetto Air Box. You pretty much just cut the top of the air box off to increase airflow. Kind of like taking you air filter out with the air filter holder thing-a-ma-jig, and taping the filter back in without the holder thing-a-ma-jig.
This does everything an aftermarket intake does, besides looking cool, and increasing your risk of MAF failure.
I've read that it sounds like a Frankencar and you don't damage your MAF doing it. I'm hoping that I can get some pictures of how it's done, then I'll post em.

No but thanks for the pics and the info, that seems as though its like having a regular after market pop-charger. Whats the difference in the setup that makes the performance different from something like lets say the Jim Wolf Intake?

i don't see how this ghetto mod can actually add power. when i got my intake the rep. told me they dynoed a 95 prelude with the intake on and it showed an 8.2 hp increase at the crank. i called and asked what they expected for a 95 maxima and they said at least 8-10 and probably even more because i got the less heat conducive carbon fiber piping. i don't see how just opeing you air box adds power

I really don't see how either but the fact is that dyno results doesn't lie about true power to crank, it seems that somehow the air flows from the top directly into the intake in front of the panel filter.
I'm gonna try it after I take off my intake and replace it with the stock box, I'm not going to do an actual dyno but I'll be monitoring the output using my Buttdyno.
I'll let you guys know when and what my BD results are when I complete the changeover.
