Vibration Question (2000 Maxima 5spd)

For the last couple of months I’ve picked up on a light, high frequency vibration in my 2000 Maxima SE. The car is mostly stock. I have two sets of aftermarket wheels, professionally balanced – one set of 16-inch rims, and one set of 17’s. The vibration is unchanged with either set installed. It feels more like a “motor thing” then an unbalanced tire.
The vibration is very light, but noticeable from just off idle all the way up. You can feel it through the floor, the steering wheel, and the gearshift. The motor feels strong, but I’m still suspicious of perhaps a need for a valve adjustment (car has 40k miles), or maybe low compression in one cylinder. I had a mechanic pronounce the motor mounts ok. Perhaps half shaft joints? Where should I look, and how should I troubleshoot to find a fix? It’s the kind of thing that you hate to turn a shop mechanic loose on ($$).
Oh, the car is used for autocross and track days. It seems like the vibration started after the last autocross of the season (won novice class!).

Unfortunately, warranty ran out about 4k/2 months ago...probably days before the vibration started!

A couple of updates...
I lied...paying a little closer attention I'd say the vibration starts at around 40mph, and continues on until at least 85mph (I'm trying to slow it down these days!).
Resident Brake system expert Michel's feedback indicate that one potential source of the problem is a sticking brake piston or caliper. When it's time for the springtime, pre-race system housekeeping (and a new set of rotors, most likely) I'll have my mechanic shceck to make sure I don't have a sticking caliper.
Another possible source, my add-on brake ducts were bumping against the inside left wheel...maybe I tossed a wheel weight? This should be cheap/simple to check out...
