16 months after...

It has been almost 16 months since my 600 horse mods and the GTR is still in one piece..at least!:p
Was on holiday up north in Malaysia 2 weeks ago with my family and some buddies, one of whom drives a EVO 6 RS with really superb gear ratio. At 2 am one morning, lined up beside him at an empty strecth, at the count of 3...let go at about 5500rpm...full boost with octane boster...the GTR launched perfectly...first gear with nose clearly in front...selector light on...changed to 2nd...and erm...ooooh....aaah.....2nd gear wud not engage!! The RS went straight into the night...damn!!
So, after about 16 mths of 600 horses abuse, the twin plate OS Giken finally gave way. It still clutches well but the plates are gone making it hard to engage gears at high rpms. The HKS GT twin or tripple plate is next on the "install" list. Any suggestion on which one is better for everyday and once a mth track usage?
Otherwise, nothing else breaks down yet. The paint is slowly getting pale, prolly made worst by parking a lot under the hot tropical sun. So, a new paint job is also in the "do" list. Thinking of the new Impreza blue...waddaya think?
The suspension has been tweaked about 2 mths ago...dunno what the guy did but now the cornering is so sharp n purposeful with little or no understeering at all. It is so different that I have to change my cornering lines on the track. Beautifulllllll....
On the "option" list is my Malaysian mechanic "I-cud-do-better-than Nagata san" challenge. He has actually said he cud better Nagata san's tuning of my car....I am to pay only if the dyno shows it's better...still mulling over this one...perhaps will do in a mth or two...just perhaps.
That's it for the time being...still alive n kicking asses!

Don't know much about clutches so I can't help ya much there. You just have to ask yourself, do you want to drive a triple plate around day in, day out?
As for the mechanic's offer... Sounds good, there would be a few particulars to work out. Like... how much more is "better". If it isn't better, will he put it back like it was...

That is exactly my concern too Gonth. Don't wanna have a left leg bigger than my right one! But I am advised that the HKS tripple plater is not that bad..so wanna ask around whether any of you have had experience with it.
The offer is okay and you are right Gonth. How much is better? He said he can at least maintain the hp but will be able to give big fat low end torque. Have to work out that one with him. He will use my stock ecu and the F Con for that. So, if it does not work, I would just reinstall the Top Secret Rom to revert to the current set up.

Sorry to hear about your clutch, R33.
I to have no experiance with GTRs and clutches. I do know a triple clutch on the street is not a good combo. I have not done any really research though.
I have read that the OS triple is fairly street friendly.

I forgot to add, blues and R33s to me do not match. PLEASE leave the same color on your car. It looks so good.
If you change the color, I will bring my Stang down there to romp your GTR butt, of course with the stepulation you have to use your burnt out clutch:D I will walk all over you Mr. I'll even throw down big cash that I win, say $2. Oh, is that too high for you, ok $1.50:p
There are much cooler blues out there. If you pull up on a Blue Scooby, do really want your car to be same color?
Dodge Viper Blue is AWESOME, I think its a 1996 color if you must go with blue, look around at the paint shops.

Lol, funny stuff Sky.
Agreed tho, R33+Blue= no good IMHO. If it were my car I'd look into hyper white or Diablo spec black.

Just remember that just because it can do an extra few bhp or so on the dyno does not make it better. It would be quite possible to increase the maximum output, whilst delivering it in a bad way, with no torque and a small power band. I doubt there are many people out there who can tune a car better than nagata san and top secret. think about what you want from the car before you do it.

Thank you all, for your inputs.
Yeah Sky, will take on ur Stang in the quarter with the current clutch if u gimme 350 m handicap. Will pay u 2 dollars if u win and u can pay me 1.50 if I win.:D
Gonth...u r right...never thought about it before...pull up beside a Scoob and...erm....color is the same..omagawd! Sky, I saw the Viper Blue on an RX 7 at a car show over here and I must say, it RAWKS man...if only I cud get the paint number...but then again, I agree with yer all the R33 n blue does not mix. Black sounds good while white is not mah cup'a tea. How about Ferrari red? Shyte, I hate it when I have to choose colors...
BTW, is ur GTR black Sky? Or is it midnite purple?

R33,
She is Black. I am going to paint it when I get a chance. I am going with Dodge Viper Dark Green, or something close to it.
I don't like purples, well very rarely.
My vote is to keep your car the same color.
Black would look good, but black is a very hot color. Where you live, would that be wise?
Ferrari Red, that might look pretty good. I prefer a little darker red, but not much. Say something like the ORIGINAL color:rolleyes:

I my opinion the triple hks plate is trash. Yes it can hold whatever you can through at it but what a pain in the ass to street drive. Lemme tell you this, my friends r33 had a hks triple and after a year of driving with it he still stalled out pretty often! I have heard nothing but good things about the nismo clutches and the os gikens seemed nice. Or you could use the os triple and get a nismo slave cylinder. those do wonders on the leg. the hks triple is an on - off deal, there is definately no slipping this one. Im using the HKS twin plate and its fairly tame on the streets and has held its own for 2 years of abuse on the track (auto and drag).
About the color blue... it is my fav color but i think silver is the best on the skyline. (Ya i know im bias :D) But it is the best for scratches and faded paint since they all blend in. Also very easy to keep looking clean since dirt and dust dont really show up.
Then again just go with what feels right. i suggest painting the wing or hood a few different colors and see what they look like on your car. would cost to much to paint a hood only.

After having nightmares of a 'Stang spitting flames into my intercooler, I have decided to maintain my GTR's colour, at least I won't be changing it in the foreseable future. BTW, went to the track on Sunday. Thrashed a NSX after five laps. Later, and this realy made my day, I managed to whup....read this....a MURCIELAGO at a long sweeping corner. The guy gave me a chase for half a lap before giving up! When I was trailing him on the straight, he really pushed the car hard as his tails were like smokin' away but my car managed to come from behind and was licking his rear all the way...I was so pleased and still am! And this was achieved with my defective clutch!! I had to change gear really slowly at less than 7OOO rpm all the while....

Do not get the HKS triple, I repeat do not get the HKS triple. At 600hp HKS twin is good enough and even that isn't the friendliest to drive. You might want to look into carbon clutches. If not that, then NISMO twin.

Nope...no tripple plater for me. I have decided to send my current OS Giken twin plate to a really good clutch fabricator over here...I have seen his work and have driven a car with his fabricated clutch and they are good. I will see what he can do with my clutch. If it does not work, I wud order sumthin' else...NISMO twin sounds ok....HKS GD twin plate clutch is also good from what I hv heard so far. Carbon clutch? What brand? Where can I get more info?

You're in Malaysia? Unless you want me to find out where to get it from USA, you could try this: http://www.google.fi/search?hl=fi&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22carbon+clutch%22&lr=

Just to give you an idea of price, I was told a good deal, $1500 for a carbon clutch kit. Didn't go for it myself, I still have plenty left of that HKS twin...

I don't know where to get the HKS twin, I had mine in the car when I bought it from Motorex. A Japanese tuner shop would be my best bet.
600hp, not a problem for that clutch but I wouldn't recommend it. You can propably get as strong clutches that are much easier to drive.
