I read in Car and Driver about the new Aston Martin for under 100g's. Any body hear anyhting. I have a link here for anyone who wants to look at it. They have a working name for it as AM305 but may release it as the DB5.

Don't care much on how it looks, haven't seen or heard of one before

I guess it is covered up as most concept test cars are, but I am not impressed by the looks. That wing cannot stay, and the tail lights are ugly. I'm sure the finished product will be nice and it is more affordable than most other Astons.

Lmao, the press are a bunch of idiots. The spy shots on the site are of the new DB9, the DB5 has already been made anyway so they are not going to call it that and the AM305 (completely different car) will be out in 2005, will cost around 70k and has been built to take on the Porsche 911
Check the gorgeous thing out.......

The AMV8 is going to be around $100,000, not $70,000...

Would be nice. Hope it will be as good as the DB9. Worst part its a 2-seater coupe this one. They might make 50 limited edition volante ones supposably but its a small rumour.

So $100,000 is the base price? Will this cheapen the brand and exclusivity of AM like Mercedes and BMW has lost it prestige and exclusivity?

It will not cheapen the Aston Martin brand. The company will still only be making 5,000 cars per year. Hardly a significant amount.

I don't know about that... I read in a car mag don't remember which that just before Ford bought Aston Martin they had produced about 10000 (that's ten thousand) cars in total! I remember this very well and any person who knows AM can verify me. For those of you not familliar with Aston history that's from the '50s to the '90s!!!!! Since then that figure must have skyrocketed while exclusivity goes the opposite direction.... And yes I know that without Ford they might have closed up shop but that's a different story.

I totally agree with 993cc. I think the Ford influence will ultimately, in time, be the end to the real exclusivity of the Aston Martin brand.
They will be looking over time to increase production in numbers far in excess of what is done now.
I agree, certain cars will be built in limited production and will keep their exclusivity, but the brand as a whole will become much less exclusive and you will find Aston Martins on the road just like you see BMW's or Mercedes.
Where did I get this information? My little head. It is just my opinion from what I have heard, I have no facts to back this up other than you now see the new lower price AMV8 Vantage. Wait and see, once the lower price AMV8 is successfull, you will see a $60,000 Aston Martin. Remember, this is Ford running this company now and they need numbers.
Just my opinion.

I meant £, not $ ;)
Also, I think LovinSL600's quote on having as many Astons on the road as BMW's and Merc's is the most laughable thing I have heard in a long time.
You need to go and get your head examined, rofl :P

My quote that there will be as many Astons on the road as Mercedes and BMW's was not meant to be taken literally but to make the point that the number of Astons will be increasing in huge numbers. Obviously, finding as many Astons on the road as Mercedes and BMW's will never happen in our life.
I was just trying to make a point. Sorry for the confusion, and yes, I have had my head examined...not good news. rofl

I am sorry but for those of you who don't see how AM is losing its exclusivity factor I have to repeat myself: it took them 40 years to produce a measly ten thousand cars and now they'll be making half that each and every year!

BIG DEAL!
Yes Aston Martin will not be as exclusive as it once was. Those great days in the 80's when they barely produced 10 cars in a month will be sorely missed. :P
5,000 cars per year is still less than Ferrari and they are still considered pretty exclusive.

It is certainly no BIG DEAL! It's just an interesting sign of the times and how a big company like Ford see the place of AM in the world sportscar market.
...and Ferrari always make less than 5000 a year - about 4200 to 4500

Ford may bankroll Aston Martin but they pretty much still run themselves.
Maybe they should take your idea of being more exclusive, at least then they won't sell enough cars to stay in business and then there will be no more Aston Martin.....exclusivity achieved, lol ;)

Funny, that is one way to stay exclusive.

Please take time to read the whole thread and not just the last post of the thread ..... Yes they would be hopeless without Ford AND the price to pay is reduced exclusivity. Simple really.

It's all about moving with the times, it's exclusivity may be reduced, but it's still exclusive.......
