My long-finished Mercedes 600 SEC

This was a really fun project, where I pushed myself and my building abilities on a completely out-of-the-box build job. I had a month to build it for a contest-so I had to choose a good model to showcase my paint/detail techniques. The Tamiya 600 SEC seemed a perfect match, and I was lucky-it went together perfectly, and took detailing beautifully. I won a best-in-class and best paint award for it at the GSLMCC, a very well-respected national show. Not bad for using Testors paints! And to this day, it's still my best paint job, and it has aged well-it's as glossy as when new. Instead of using the wood decals, I hand painted the interior wood. I used wrinkle paint for the carpeting. I robbed small decals from other kits for underhood decals. I detail painted everything, even wheel weights and the tiny lettering marking the glass.

The engine was great-it went together without glue so that I could fit it together while finishing each part (removing mold lines, polishing, and painting).

The chassis was paint detailed and then covered w/a lightly airbrushed and splattered weathering, so it looked like a fairly new, but not brand-new car.

Thanks, no pics of the interior. With glass in place and the glare/reflection it's kinda hard to see except in person, and I didn't shoot the model as I built it.
The window frames are detailed w/Tamiya semi-gloss black (also inside the glass) and Bare Metal Foil for the chrome trim.

Thanks! You can order it direct from Kalmbach, from ads in the back of Scale Auto and Fine Scale Modeler, you can also get it from Amazon.com as well.

Very slick looking Benz. My mate just got this kit, I wonder what it will turn out looking like. Did you use the decals Tamiya provided for the wooden panels on the interior? I thought they looked pretty shit
