Has anyone everheard of these? Apparently it's like a Geo storm or Isuzu impulse with a lotus suspension and a 1.8 litre 4 cylinder. It has 140 horsepower and 120 ft/lbs. With the lotus suspension I'm not worried about handling but how fast do you think it would be O-60 and in the quarter? Any input about these cars would be appreciated.

I'm not sure exactly how close it is to the Geo, but it's exactly the same as the Impulse. My neighbour had one of these, and he riced it out.

This isn't the car to be thinking of for acceleration, it's not fast, and probably never will be.

yea...pretyy sure it's the same as the Impulse too.....a couple light mods could probably make it have decent performance? probably does 0-60 in about 8 or 9 stock

1993 Geo Storm GSi
0-60: 8.7
1/4: 16.7

1992 Isuzu Impulse RS
0-60: 7.7
1/4: 15.8

For a daily driver, they'd be good on gas, fun to drive, but probably never fast.

Thanks for the input guys. I knew the stories were too good to be true.

Uhh... i guess you didnt read my post

92 Isuzu Impulse RS = 15.8
99 Honda Civic SI = 15.7

To me, that says 'has potential'. Seeing as its running as fast as a Civic SI 7 years before it.

I never realized they were THAT fast!

My god, you could almost beat a Civic!

You say that as if Civic's are fast, I have an old lady 94 LHS that is faster than a stock Civic SI, and I dont consider it fast. Only compared to the Civic.

I was being sarcastic ;)

Sad thing is, my beloved 924 is about a 15 second car, in it's highly tuned state.

Actually, these things do have potential.

Maybe not at the strip but at the track they can keep up with a lot of things you wouldn't expect.

A 92 RS was a turbo 1.6 and also AWD, at a curb weight of less then 2800lbs. Stock 160HP and 150 ft-lbs. of torque. Sure thats not much for drag racing but with a little modification they make great track/street cars.

Theres a guy around here who's got a sunfire done up to about 200HP. That combined with the fact that it's about 200 or more lbs. lighter than a WRX makes it a pretty nice little car. As for the suspension, well the name says it all :)

I knew you were being scarcastic...
The one thing I hate, is that even though my old lady car comes off the line faster than the civic, everyone and their grandma makes aftermarket parts for the civic, and it can be modded like its nothin. However if I want somethin done, I have to have it special made, and pay 3 times as much... They dont make any aftermarket for old-lady cars, oh well, Ill just keep driving it for what its made for, comfort, and class...

As I said, it would make a fun daily driver, with good handling.

If you want to go fast in a luxury car, get an M5, or a Ford Super Coupe. I personally like to break vehicles down into categories best suited to them. Porsche for the town car, high gearing, hard suspension, buckets of fun. Supercoupe for the highway, big, roomy, lots of power and comfy too. Aerostar for hauling stuff and people.

I don't have the supercoupe yet, and the 924 is still over at my brothers house :( I'm looking for a 944 parts car, so I can snag the later Audi tranny with the hydraulic clutch, and the 4 wheel discs.

Hehe, I know what you mean. I have beaten a lot of cars in my Vision TSi; it is so funny to see their faces.

As for the topic at hand, if it is power you want, swap the engine. The car can probably handle pretty well being the suspension is from Lotus, the power plant however; is not that great, then again I don't like the Civic Si power plant either. Do an engine swap and you'll be having fun.

Anything is possible; it is all a matter of time and money. Just be sure to have a good amount of both.

Yeah Redneck I should have specified the stories. Some guy claimed he beat a mid nineties integra stock to stock in a drag. Polygon thats my problem being a teen I have infinite time but not nearly as much money.

Cbass
12-22-2002, 07:20 PM
Quite possible, and even impressive, if you consider a stock Integra fast, which I do not.

I dont consider them fast in the realm of straight line cars but for an all around daily driver that's decent on gas I think they're decent for a FWD inline 4.

It would definately make a better winter driver than the Monte, as much as it hurts to say that. FWD owns in the snow. Yes, that's right, I just endorsed front wheel drive. Mark this day in your calender.

It's always better to start with a factory turbocharged car than to try to do it yourself. Everything is already set up for a turbo system, the ignition and fuel systems are already calibrated, and the plumbing is all there.

You could probably get an easy 200hp from it, which is fine for a daily driver, and about as much as I would want in a FWD car. If you want a fast car, get a first gen RX7 with a blown engine, and bolt in a 5.0 V8. Total cost of project, maybe 2500 USD. 2300 lbs, 50/50 weight balance, 230hp on pump gas and 30mpg. As much performance potential as you want, considering a massive aftermarket for brakes and suspension, due to the popularity of the RX7 in club racing, and a massive after market for the drivetrain, because it's the Ford Windsor smallblock.

Yeah I've seen a couple of those floating around town. It says something like "tuned by lotus" on the side. They are pretty quick for a early nineties isuzu.

Yeah, it says "Suspension tuned by Lotus", which many people seem to think means that Lotus designed or made their suspension, which they didn't. Lotus sorted out the springrates and shocks, as well as the camber.

AH, HA!!!

Well, then I would say screw it then. It is not worth modding IMO, had Lotus designed the suspension, then I would say it is, but not anymore.

Hey! My team's #2 and I had a blast turning a Geo Storm (Impulse's bastard sibling) into a quasi-autocross car. We gutted the interior, then stripped all the stamped bracing out from underneath the fenders, hood, and doors, welded up our own tower braces out of tube steel, welded up our own 2inch exhaust, complete with scavenged hi-flo cat off of a junkyard 300ZX Z32 and "gift" header (don't know where he got it, don't want to know), polished the ports and intake, and installed a thinner head gasket to raise compression. Lastly, we installed dropped springs, self-shaved Falken tires, Impulse 5-spoke wheels, a bit of toe-in at the rear, we tightened up the handbrake cable, and removed the handbrake ratchet.

It was a blast. The car was really agile, really loud, and and corner we couldn't drive around we'd just yank up on the handbrake and around we'd go. Not bad for a grand total of about $400. Of course, we paid that in cash and there were four bullet holes in the hood, so... who knows?

For the rest of my life, I'll never forget the image of me and my teammate barreling down sidestreets at 70mph, the whole car shaking and rattling like it's held together with shoestrings, the engine screaming like crazy, then getting to an empty intersection, swaying the car, and pulling the handbrake to slide around the corner. Ahh, days gone bye.
