I own a 2002 XLE V6. Bought in July 2002. Made in Japan (Canadian
model)
The radio is the single CD type - model # AD6806 (on the front panel
near the TOYOTA label).
It is manufactured by Delco. Assembled in Mexico.
Lately I found that it has problems playing new CDs only.
It searches for a while and then displays an "Error 1" message.
Sometimes it will work, but it will error when you restart the car.
I had it replaced twice by the dealer, but the problem is still there.
Now they finally believe I am not crazy.
Toyota Canada is just learning the problem and trying to find a
solution. When? Hmmm...
CDs for you to test:
- the latest "Very Best of Fleetwod Mac" - disk 1 (the worst - never
works);
- the new Shania Twain "Up" - disk 1;
- the latest U2 "Best of 1990-2000" - disk 2 (B sides);
- the new Rod Stewart "Great American Songbook",
- the new Eric Clapton "One More Car One More Rider" - disk 1.
Of course, all the above CDs are playing well in any other car radio I
have tried.
All my old CDs are working perfect in my car.
I also tried the radio with the CD changer in the XLE (it is
manufactured by Mtshushita) and it has no problems with any of the CDs
mentioned here.
I would like to know how common this problem is, if anybody else had
this (probably yes) and if Toyota found the fix for you (probably
not).
Also, if you are about to buy an XLE just now, invest 20$ in a CD and
try it before you buy. Or just upgrade to the changer.
