Haven't seen it yet, But I'll be seeing it some time next week. In the words of a good friend of mine (with an interesting vocabulary)
"After reading the books fifty, you just know it's gonna top!"

I had an opportunity to see it free at 9 a.m. yesterday (that's right, BEFORE the pathetic people who've been camping out for four days) but I turned it down. Seeing a movie that doesn't end isn't worth waking up before 11 a.m. I plan to see all 3 consecutively when they're out on DVD though.

I will probably go see it some time before the new year.

Gotta love the fact that the 2 biggest movies out at the moment are directed by KIWIS:D

i agree.. there wasnt really a end to this one either... its one LONG story.. but i saw it anyways... for the battle scene.. i think it almost rivals braveheart's even though it was moslty computer generated..it looked so real though!!

but, anyone else feel bothered by the begining.. with all the movie previews.. have we run out of new ideas.. i think there was only one new movie.. the jim carey as GOD one.. the rest.. were all sequels....t3, dumb and dumber and dumberer, bad boys 2, destination 2, blah blah blah.. next year = year of sequels.. i still see them of course.

We are going to see if we can get tickets for a Sunday Matinee showing. Considering the $$$ the movie is already raking in - the theaters must be packed.

I did the Uber nerd thing and got up at 2am to catch the 2:40am showing in the city on the day it opened.
Got a ticket, but only just, the Cinema was nearly sold out.

And all I can is........

GO AND WATCH IT!
If you thought the 1st one was awsome this one is even better.

From the opening scene with Gandolf tackling the belrock at the start to the massive 10,000 strong assult on helms deep at the end I was rivited to the screen.
Sat there for 3hrs and it all went past in a flash.
Awsome almost totaly flawless effects, and LOTS of Blood and violence, and I mean lots!
Theres is plenty of peter Jackson style humor as well, think Brain dead and meet the feebles with a multimillion dollor budget and a huge dollop of class and sophistication.

Purists who know the books really really well will spot some differnces, but they are minnor and in no affect the story. (I didnt spot them, but a mate did).

Sweet!

He made good comic relief in the 1st half of the movie, but I was impressed that he did finnaly get to do some real fighting and prove he is a true Dwarf towards the end.

Never saw the first. Never will see either the first nor the second. I've already seen too much of Two Towers from watching The Travel Channel's New Zealand: The Royal Tour documentaries. Reminds me... I should go so I can catch the first hour of it tonight.

Gollum=funny.

This replaces the law of Gravity as a universal constant.

It's a tricksey little hobbitses...
NOPE!
it's lies and keeps our precious from us!!
LEAVE ME ALONE!

The creative use of camera angles and CG facial expressions was TOP NOTCH in that segment of the film. I would gladly pay the price of another ticket just to see that one part again.

Also funny-
I have shared your names with my fellow ents and we have decided...*long pause* that you are not Orcs.

I did notice differences, especially the River thing...he never got seperated!

"Stupid fatz Hobpitz!!!!!!!"

"givez us fish. sweet fish, RAW!"

I think Smegal/Gollum needs a best actor award.

Awesome film. :)

I disagree though about the only alterations from the book being minor; there were some huuuuuge alterations, which actually took me by surprise, and caused me enough dismay to stop me enjoying the film as much as I should have. I shall have to see it again - then I'll know the changed bits, and I can concentrate on enjoying the film, rather than getting annoyed :p

Gollum/Smeagol ownz :D And so did Gandalf's fight with the Balrog

(note correct spelling) :p

Its been 10 years since I read LOTR, and I only got half way through Silmirillion (sp?) before a mate stole it.

But then I did spot some of the plot alterations so I guess they must be more major than I thought, but most of them were pointed out to me by a mate.
(most noticable is the movie ends quite short of the end of the 2nd book.)

Care to post your spotted plot alterations?
Ill be able to test my mate then.

I agree with boingo82, Ill wait till there all out on DVD and watch them all while drinking red bull and vodka and popcorn:bloated:

The big changed thing that got me was the death of Aragorn's Elf friend...there were no major deaths in the second book....So I guess they just wrote that in to give the movie some (unneeded, in my opinion) Oomph. That's what you get for not wearing a helmet in battle. *phhht*

Yes, the Second movie ends a bit before the second book should (3rd and 4th books, if you want to be anal), but it also begins a bit after the beginning of book 2 (boos 3/4)

Minor changes?
If I remember correctly, it was one of Grishnaks (sp, I know) Urak-hai who attempted to eat the hobbits, not one of the lesser-goblins.

Upon meeting the Riders of Rohan, didn't Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas hide in the grasses? in the movie, they hide in a rocky outcrop.

There're more, but I'd have to see the movie again before I point them out.

Well I think there were only 3-4 elves at Helms deep, and about 20 rangers. Not a whole army of Elves with bows. (but they were very cool! so its an accepted change)

And Iv heard differnt ppl say differnt things about how many Ents attacked Isengard, and if any went to Helms deep.
And if the ents attacked Isengard on thier own, or with help from the Gandalf and co.

darkness

who cares about the changes, it still ruled all.

Gollum = definitely needs the best actor award.

helms deep = best action sequence easy.

oh and the oliphants and nazgul! how cool were they.

and did you all spot Peter Jacksons cameo in this one????

Dustin_S

RE>>> Peter Jacksons Cameo-

Jimmy, the more you post lately, the more I discover I'm soooo very much like you. First the Corona ownage, then the no musical talent. Then I find the same passion for violence/boobs/car chases in movies and the disgust for teh sci fi crap....

I thought he was one of the wild men who runs past Suromon after he winds them up?

I figured he would be either there or at helms deep, and looked closely the 2nd time I watched it.
I should be watching it a 3rd time before the end of the year, so Ill look again at helms deep.

darkness I dont really care about the changes, all were done perfectly, and do not affect the orginal story in anyway. Infact they show how great a film maker PJ really is.

It's possible, Peter Jackson has put more than one cameo into the movie series so far.

In the firest movie, check out the burping man in Bree's Prancing Pony Inn! (or is it the carrot man?) DAMNIT!

I believe the Ents stayed at Isengard. They were adamant about not helping men before They discovered the "dead" trees bordering Orthanc and Isengard. They are a very focused race.

no worries Moppie.

I was just stating I didn't care about the changes.

But yeah PJ was at Helms Deep

Wasn't he one of the guys up in the tower at Helm's Deep, throwing rocks?
And I've heard his children played some of the refugees from Rohan.

saw it yesterday and all I can say is Gollum is one funny character. Who would think that the biggest conflit in a movie could involve only 1 character.
