An idea for a paint scheme...

While tooling around on the net today, i thought of an idea that i might be interested in doing to my Supra,if i choose to strip it and repaint it.

Not sure if many of you have seen the world of gundam, but that's waht i used to build before i started cars. There is this thing known as "Digital Camo" and i was thinking about doing it to my supra. I couldn't find any real good examples, but what it is, is when you paint a base coat, mask off squares/stripes and then spray another coat of a lighter/darker color similar ot the base and do it one more time with another color or until you get somethingyou like. it hink it would turn out pretty "neat" looking on a car.

Here is an example of, dial ups beware...

I was thinkin about either doing it in greys or light to dark blues

tell me what you think...

Thanks,
nika

Looks good on Gundam models, but on a Supra ... :apuke:

Mind you, it would be unique. Go on, give it a try.

Go for it! Have you thought about decals for your chekered pattern? It might be much easier if you can print you own decals on clear decal film.

And speaking of gundam, how hard are they to build. I've seen a few interesting builds. Are they Japanese cartoon/comic characters or what?
Who makes the better ones? Do you have some links to some good, informative sites where I can learn more. Don't mean to stray from the car forum but it would be nice to build something other than a car from time to time.
Thanks

yeah, not to take away from this board, but for those who are interested in scifi models such as gundam's, head over to www.gundam.com ; they have a very large model gallery of gundams, information about gundams (yes, it's a japanese comic/tv show(s)[there are tons of them]). and a great forum for building them and tips and such...

i think i will do this paint scheme if i can get around to stripping this paint job i have now (i'm not happy with the way it came out). as for the decal, i'd rather try and do iton my own:)

I think it would look okay on a car, but I think it would be better suited on a boxier-shape than the A80 Supra. That scheme in blues/greys on the A70 Supra, for example, would look pretty cool, IMO...

what about making ghost flames that way. i dont think a checkered kind of pattern would look that good on a supra, if that's what you were planning on doing. if not, what kind of pattern are you making?

i think ti would look different to see something like that

It would look alright if you just did a little area (Like on the front corner of the hood) in it, thn just had it fade out into 1 body colour. Although having it fade out wouldn't be the easiest thing to do...

Maybe on a S13 Silvia, too.

How about Light Gunmetal, under Dark Gunmetal, under Metallic Black? :coolguy:

i was thinkin about doing something similar to what thug said, i was going to start it up on the front bumper/fenders and go about half way up the hood and have it fade out into a solid color... and i think i'll do it in white(very light grey)/light grey/dark grey... the very light/white as the top color

Yeah, I agree it shouldn't be a checkerpattern - make it a fade. Something like dark yellow to medium yellow to light, to dark again, that'd be very cool.
