300ZX progress...

Hey i have bbeen working on my 300ZX for a couple days.. with no real progress... ican't get the suspension and wheels to look right.. i am going to try other wheels or if anyone can help me... it would be greatly appreiceiated..

Looking good.Nice rim choice.

Those tires are too big. I think you need to go with a different rim and tire set-up. Rim with a lip and a skinnier sidewall tire will do some real justice.

Looking good but id put some Lower Profile tires on those rims they look weird. And Tuck those rear wheels in more. If your still wondering how to lower it, I just got my 300zx Conv. today and I think i figured it out. On the suspension assembly, the biggest part of it (The Center plate styled thing), if you get the 2 end and push them upward they will move up, but dont push real hard or you'll break them off. I did'nt even come close to breaking them and I got them up about 3mm. I didnt try the back yet so ill inform you when I try it.

Yeah, i finished one of those a month 1/2 ago, and I had trouble with the suspension. Just be patient. Did you finish the tail lights yet? That was my biggest problem.

no i havent' finished yet.. i do'nt know if i am going to do a stock light look.. or modified... Def not ALTEZZA tho~ r ricer

I think this is one of those cars that clear taillights suit quite well! ;) (see gallery)

yea ur right... but anyways! onto more progress! I picked up some interior paint (white) and i will spray tonight... and i also got a Thin tipped marker..... but it wasn't thin enough, and the panel line is thick!!! il get some pics of it later today (December 22) and tell me what you guys think! thanks alot:flash: :(

i do'nt know about that ITR.. but anyways this mornigngi was working on the 300ZX , the window frames.... and when i pealed off the tape, it leaked through!!! so i tried getting it off with a tooth pick and it went all the way DOWn to the primer!!!! in a couple little holes.... it was a disaster... now i am repainting part of the body and i think i ruined the whole project......... someone please help me.. im spazzin out!

Theres what it looks like now

On the ITR seems like you have to a lot of things....

Just take all those putty out

put the knife between body and putty, push the knife lil more than gently

It should come out

making of a body kit.....wut you need is plastic sheet and putty

make the shape of the body kit with plastic sheet and put putty for final shape

That's wut I learned in hard way

I dunno if you saw my MR-2....it's without plastic sheet so i'm about to do it again

Hey, haven't posted in a while, but i am starting again. I stripped the paint of my 300ZX and now it is ready to be primed, and painted (tonights work.) But in the mean time, since i couldn't paint, While the paint was coming off... i made some real working lights. Here are the pictures...

does anyone know how i can wire this through the car. im thinking bout taking out the engine, then just running the wires, through the big hole,.. but i can't not put a TT V6 into a car. :(... do u think i could just run it, right behing the bumper?

Hey its looking great! How hard was it to do that? What is "powering" that light? Is it an L.E.D.?

The lights are actully "mag light" replacement bulbs. and 2 Triple AAA, batteries, are powering them.... no resistor!

U might wanna try a smaller diameter wire for those lights.

those lights are awsome. could u maybe fit it between the chassi and the trunk? or maybe just put it in the trunk and figure some creative way to hid it like a stero system. im not sure how big the everything is so its just a suggestion.

yes exactly both of u are right....i tihnk the wires will be fine, and i don't really wanna do them again. but as soon as the body is ready, iss when i will get serious with the placement of the wires /etc.

i will admit im not the best modeler out there but i do know electronics. i did a Chevy S-10 model where i put a super bright blue LED in the bottom to give the car an underglow. i hid the batter and stuff in the bed and used the toneu cover to cover the 9v batter and slide switch. (i can try to post a pic of anyone really wants). for your car i would use some really thin wireand rune it between the body and the interior pannels of the car and put the batters and switch in the trunk. (if the car has a trunk) .. if you dont want to keep the batteries in the trunk run the wires out of the car and externally hook them up... hope that helps.. and it looks really cool :grey:

Maybe you could give it a neon glow? That would look really good I think, I have never seen that on a model before.

for the first coat paint job, How thick should it be, beacuse i see some people with the whole car covered with teh first coat, and then mine, which is just barely lightly covered... Also, painting with a spray can (tamiya) do you want to paint Up and down, or one stroke LEFT TO RIGHT?? not explained in the FAQ!:rolleyes:

Paint coats (after primer, if you desire (but recommended)):
1. mist coat
2. mist coat
3. heavier mist coat (should see light paint coverage on 98% of part by now)
4. wet coat
5. wet coat

This will lead you to want to make you passes aloge the longest dimension available. (Usually from the front to the back of the car, or vice versa.)

hey Integra14 . I suggest to keep the 300zx in white color or have it white pearl......seems white more suitable to the car. just a little suggestion...... :)

3-4 Coats of finish coat about 5-10 minutes apart....thats it...nice a simple.(keep the can warm)
The first coat is a very light mist coat...the paint should only just be landing on the car.
Do the same for the second coat
The third coat you can spray a bit more heavy.
The last coat is the one you want to get perfect.
I always spray the front and rear bumpers first...then both sides along the whole length of the car body.
Then the last bit i do is the bonnet/boot and roof last

I apolo;gize for blurryness... its kina hard to photograph... and i know the quality of the model is nothing you guys can do.... i havent been building models long ..(i like to play around and do wird things with them)(also i have to hand paint all of my models so...) .... hope this works right

That looks alright! really good effect and I like the paintjob!

www.RCneon.com sells flat panel Undercarriage lights for R/c Cars but they could be cut to fit a model, they are cheap and work on a 9 volk battery. Simple and easy. They also have headlights that work the same way.

Orange looks just wrong on that car. But you already painted it. O well. If you get one more kit like that, paint it in blue metalic or white.

Tip (second time I've said it about a Z32 kit) - switch the positions of the battery and the master brake cylinder ;)

Otherwise - looks decent.

its Tamiya Matte Black, and Real CAR clear coat, i think it will work...

little more progress... but after i took pics, i sanded down,, got rid of orange peal, and now the body is the b est paint job ive ever done!! soo heres, some to keep u intereseted!

and i stripped paint off hood, and it will be ORANGe, like the body

Do not use real-car glosscote unless you use real car paint! You will not be pleased at the result! Just trying to help!:grey:

Integra, I don't mean to cramp your thread, but i was just wondering if anyone knew if you could use Dupl-color Gloss Coat on Tamiya?

It's coming along good. The orange doesn't look bad at all on that car. Can;t wait to see it finished. :flash:
