whats wrong with my fourth???

when i bought my car all gears worked great, now i cant even shift into fourth. when i shift, it grinds and jumps out of fourth. what gives?????

What year car do you have, most 1st gens have grindy trannies. Usually though the problem is shifting into second. You check under the hood and make sure that the lower radiator hose isnt hitting the shift linkage as you go through the gears. If thats not the case, try replacing the tranny fluid, it may help. If nothing else, you may have a busted syncro which would call for a tranny rebuild, not a huge expense-around $800, but definitely not something you would wish for.
