Is that a wheelie bar on the back of that? If so, why? I doubt you'll see that fwd civic doing wheelies. :D

Wheelie bars are used in FWD drag cars to keep weight onthe front tires.

When you race in a FWD. You rev the engine, drop the clutch then *BOOM* you're off, and the front end raises up due a few things...Engine tourque, aero-dynamics, suspension......ect.

The Wheelie bars are used to keep the front end down and pressure onthe front tires. IE Better traction.

Hope this clears things up. ;)

I think it's pretty erry/ironic that the car in (the red Civic) looks almost identical to the one I've been blueprinting for the past couple months.

Except mine will have a straight bar dash, not the stock Civiv dash.

Guess I'll have to chop the top a few milimeters and flare the fenders like teh Ed Bergenholtz car to be more unique.

....back ot the drawing board. :)

And it would have to be so much, like 2-4 inches, so that the wheelie bar would do any help. And there's no way the front of the car is going to lift up 4 inches. And what I said about it popping a wheelie was a joke, notice the ":D" after it.

Why would they need it for braking, they barely touch the brakes after a 1/4 mile run. As metioned before the wheelie bar is to keep the power on the front wheels. As with RWD cars the front ends still come up and weight is thrown to the back. If it is not true how come real civic drag cars have them. Its not for braking.
WHat is the acura contest and when is it. The ITR is going to best cast in resin soon. I will keep you posted.

WHat is the acura contest and when is it. I go to the track every weekend and have never seen a fwd with a wheelie bar, so I asked about 5 people that I know that are really into racing and they said if it's for anything it's stability.
And do a search, it's not that hard to find out when and what the itr contest is.
here's the link for ya http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72347&highlight=ITR+contest

Every FWD drag car that run's 10's or lower WILL have wheelie bars. They keep pressure on the front wheels.

I fail to see how it keeps the pressure on the front wheels. If anything, it counerweights the front of the car pushing the center of gravity backwards. And [i]if[/if] it is to help the front wheels maximise traction, I would guess the bar will be too low and drag too much (my personal feeling of how the things work as I have not seen the wheelie bar on the FWD car in operation). The same effect can be achieved with rock solid rear suspension and overinflated rear tyres (which the causal FWD draggers do) without either the added weight of the whelie bar, or the ill effect it will have on the cnter of gravity. But we have a technical forum for this, and if anyone cares, I'd love to have a discussion on that.

Back to the topic - the Civic looks really good, a lot of work seems to have gone into it and the attention to detail is very nticeable. Welcome to AF.

interesting.

i would have loved to jump in this debate when it started. but alas, i get too pissed off with this forum because of all the lock outs to visit everyday. i HATE, i mean HATE imports, honda/acuras in particular, but will have to side with the imports on this one. real fwd drag cars( as opposed to all these bs street "ricers") do infact have wheelie bars. for stability, and to keep the front wheels on the ground. i can go on about how putting all kinds of money into a FWD car only to run 10's, and get beat by a domestic mopars, fords and chevy's that spend half the cash and go twice as fast. 10's is fast, but for the price of a honda to go 10, you can have a chevy go 8 or less.

BACK ON THE SUBJECT OF MODELS
you have got to admire the detail that went into this thing, no matter what side of the import/domestic battle you are on. and altho IMO fat tires look goofy on the front of any car, that model is one of the most beautifully detailed scale cars i have personally ever seen. espin, you are a true artist.

NICE MODEL DUDE!!!!!!!!! I love import racing but one thing I CANNOT STAND to watch is drag racing imports. In my opinion, it looks as if a turtle on steroids is running down the track while it SOUNDS as if is is being chased by a swarm of bees.

You must not be going to big enough import events. Stop going to the local track where a bunch of 16 year old kids are running beat up 1988 rat civics. Checkout the pics of the top dogs on the import scene and tell me what you see.

i wasnt really refering to speed, but whem you watch the domestics, like the corvettes and camaros, typically, they are sleaker and aren't as tall.
