From what I understand the power band from celica is very narrow, and they drop right out during a race, unless you are a really good driver.

the 2000 celica gts will smoke the shit out of the b16

I have driven both the Celica GTS and I own the 00 Civic Si. The VVTi-L engine has 180hp and is a 1.8L and the B16A has 160hp @ 1.6L. The ECU and tranny for the VVTi-L do not work harmoniously together. When entering the "upper rpm" band and then shift at redline you fall right out of the "sweet spot". Shifting in the B16A at redline you stay within the VTEC.

The 6 speed has shorter gear ratios than the 5 speed of the Civic Si. So the GTS you would have to shift more which would equal more wasted time.

Overall both cars with the same driver will yield almost identical results. 0-60 are within .1-.2 seconds and 1/4 mile times are almost the same. It would all come down to the driver.

ok if i'm not mistaken the 2000 celica gts runs 14.8. and the 2002 runs 15.5 or something like that because the rev limiter is lower. i am pretty sure but i could be mistaken that the 2000 celica ran that time. and i thought the civic si ran 15.6.

he was talking about the engine, not the whole car, or at least that what he said. he wanted to know which engine is stronger not which car is stronger

so the gts engine is stronger

i love honda, but the b16 isn't the greatest motor but to compare motors, ur putting the top of the line motor (still in production, n/a) for toyota vs the middle of the road for honda. put it against a b18c5, an no contest, the b18c5 is a better motor by far. but vs the b16, i give the edge to the gt-s, simply because of newer technology, an better torque.

Very close, definately come down to the driver. But with clone drivers, I say the Celica will edge it out, because of the bit of extra power and little bit lighter it is.

jus raced a celica tonite, an the vvti doesn't pull any harder than the VTEC. it may be new, but i was suprised, i thought it was supposed to be quite an improvement. but i still stand by the motor being better than a b16. there isn't any way around that...imo
