the pros/cons

I was messing around with my blow dryer the other day and wondered what would happened if I took the blow dryer motor and fan and stick it directly inside my intake piping...and then enclose it with the regular filter. I would then drill a hole through the piping so that the wiring would come out. I would then hook it up to a swith and power source. After that, whenever I would want a "BOOST", I would switch on my ghetto blow dryer fan. What are hte pros and cons of this? And is it safe? How would it increase the hp? By a lot of by a little? COMMENTS PLEASE, I'M ANXIOUS TO TRY THIS (after all, I can't afford a t3 myself)..

First off, a hair dryer? You would have to buy an power inverter to start. Believe it or not, there are actually a couple of "electric turbochargers" for sale around the net. They WAY exagerrate the hp gains. Personally, i think its a retarded idea to begin with and the VERY FEW horses you MIGHT pick up will be close to nothing. Definatley not noticeable, not even worthy of being referred to as boost. Don't try the hair dryer and i wouldnt waste your money.

Very bad idea. Don't do it. First off sticking a blow dryer in your intake is going to create massive amounts of restriction. Secondly I don't think a blow dryer can create any kind of boost. Thirdly blow dryer's blow hot air, very bad for making power.

mr92accord, you're on the right path my man, but yer aiming waaaay too low. get to yer lokel junkyard, look for one of those electric leaf blowers. Rig that up, and let'er rip, trust me it works, and its free, not as good as a turbo, but you feel the power, cold air is better:D

That has to be the funniest sh!t I ever heard! I don't know where you guys get these utterly stupid ideas. That is almost as bad as buying one of those bilge pumps off e-bay for 250-300 bucks thinking they will actually do anything! Can you imagine looking under someones hood and seeing a hair dryer in their intake? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You guys are f'n comedians!!!! Whew! that was a good laugh.

Tell you guys what I did,
I got an old heater blower motor, I had dual batteries in the trunk and hooked them up in series. Ran a swtich to a starter relay, and the 24v to that to conrtol the power to the blower motor. When you turned it on, that thing would blow like crazy. I hooked a boost gauge in line, and got 2 psi. It really help on the low end torque, but as soon as the engine got up to 6k it did not help, it would actually be more restrictive. Plus I kept blowing starter relays, so I srapped the idea.

That is extremely interesting...You have me thinking about a few crazy "semi-turbo" idea's now...heheh:D :D

Why are you guys knocking on this idea?
Its the most brilliant idea ive ever heard.Heres another one.Check this one out.1st you take a blow torch and spot wield your cold air intake shut for better air flow, then you chew like 10 packs of spearmint and stick them in between your cam gears, then finally you fill your headers full of foam peanuts cause from what i heard headers love foam peanuts to play with.
After all these expensive ass mods youll be pulling low 10s in no time...
I mean damn those 10 packs of spearmint might cost you like 15 bucks!!

Hahah, I can tell you're not a fan of the idea. Thanks for the opinion.

no hair dryers or electrical ebay blowers, trust me they're not worth crap, they dont create enough compressed air to create boost.....

Before sticking anything on there that will increase the amount of air going in that much. You best make sure you are also adding more fuel to go along with it...
Otherwise, figure on cracked ringlands (detonation) or holes getting burned through the pistons from leaning out... hehehe
Also, just cranking up the fuel pressure will have you running rich all the time, rather then when you really need it.

I'd say instead of the fake FI just put your mouth on the intake tube and blow all the BS on this post in there. Maybe you'll get some gains then. J/K Let's be real people.

As long as your fuel system is up to par, the sensor will add the extra fuel on its own. But you do have to make sure that your fuel system is capable of adding the extra fuel in the first place.

I think all of this is just wasting time. This is what you do, Go and buy a nitrous kit , it will set you back around $500. Then run a 75hp shot and be everso happy:D J/k

Just keep a "sharp" eye on the plugs, for any signs of the above mentioned. That will tell you more then anything. On wheather more fuel needs to be added... hehehe
[ADDED]I would "guess" so far, that the engine is really not seeing any real boost yet. Otherwise, you would start seeing MAP errors/codes... :bloated:
