std engine help

yo, i hear alot about people taking out the "restrictor plate" in there dpfi engines....where exactly is this thing? does it actually help to take it out?

Unscrew the top of your intake manifold... There will be 4 screws holding it on. You will see a brass plate inside the manifold and all you have to do to get it out is unscrew the one screw that holds it in.... I noticed alot better throttle response after I took mine out :)

i just did it and took it out on the road and all i can say is....WOW

its like they did everything they could from the std having any kind of power whatsoever....i mean....is there any REAL use for that brass plate?

I suppose it is there for fuel econamy? Next thing to do is take your airbox out from underneath the intake if you have an aftermaket one... I warn you that this does make your intake sound incredibly loud... My intake system is louder than my aftermarket exhaust!

what do you mean by taking the airbox off the intake?

There is a silencer below your intake and it is justa plastic box that mufflers the noise. You have to take off your front bumper and unbolt it from your chasis. The bolt size is 10mm i believe.

Ya, you got to yank of the front bumber through to get to it. I always wondered why in the hell honda put that brass plate in the airbox. Oh weel, free horespower?:D

Man...I was going to take that thing out one day I didn't realize you had to pull the whole bumper though...that sucks ass. I'm too damn lazy to pull that thing off.

Is there supposed to be a "do not" before "have" how does taking the silencer out help if you have an aftermarket intake...The silencer is connected to the airbox, thus if you take out the air box then isn't the silencer no longer serving a purpose? Sorry man I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just confused. Thanks for tellin me I have to pull the bumper though, now I won't try to do it in 15 mins. or something

I havent messed with it personally until I know if there are any detrimental effects of taking that shit out.

it has to be taken out for a cold air intake.... The stock airbox rests above the silencer, the air is not flowing to it from under instead a tube is attached to the airbox that goes near the radiator. An aftermarket intake benefits from taking the airbox out by getting more and and colder air. If you want the full effect you could drill a hole in your bumper and connect a tube to that that directs the air to the intake....... There are no bad side effects other than a louder system. It took me 20 minutes to do... Wow too lazy to unbolt the bumper from the chasis? Do you not do any of your own work :bloated:

Nah I do all of my own work....my car's never been in a service garage of any kind. Well except for the window tint, I gave up on it after two unsuccesfull attempts. I just don't like taking body panels off...sometimes they don't fit as good the second time around. Also I'm up till 12am monday-saturday doing homework so that leaves me very little free time. I'm trying to get my freshman year of college done while I'm a junior in HS, it's a bitch. but usually on sunday nights I find something to do to the car, I didn't sleep any the night I put the axle in. So I guess it's more of a no time issue than a laziness issue.

all i have to say is :eek: man..i'm at a loss. i did it last night around 7 and decided to go for a test drive and man.....it performs 10 times better when you have air :sun:

Yeah man...it makes a big difference. I had a problem with the throttle body sticking about a year ago and I took that cover off so I could spray some carb cleaner down in there and ge the butterfly un stuck. When I opened it up I was like wtf is that...so I went in the garage and asked my dad, he was like "I think it's supposed to create a vortex or something so you get better milage". I was like, yeah well I'm going to take it out. So I did and the difference was pretty surprising.

HECK YEAH ITZ A BIG DIFFERENCE...TOOK THE BUMBER OFF TOO AND REMOVED THAT AIR BOX......I THINK MY PERFECT GAS MILAGE IS GOING TO SUFFER...BUT WHO CARES I GOT MO' POWA' :D

Oh no, gas milage after i took mine out is 28 mpg. Oh well:D

soo if u take that plastic box off it will give you not as good mpg......i think i will wait till the spring to do that one since its cold out and i am really busy with work and skool

my mpg was 36-37 stock...........after i put in a short ram intake, cat-back exhaust & took out that little brass plate i'm getting 33-35mpg.
A small price to pay for a little more pep.
