Cruise Control Cable

Accidently moved the adjustment of my cruise control cable at the bracket connected to the intake. I had it set all the way out and it destroyed my fuel efficiency (lost about 7 or 8 mpg). Moved it back out, and mpg jumped back up. Does anyone know how to properly set the cable for a 2000, 3.4 liter? Also, my brother-in-law would like to know how to adjust the same on a 2001, 2.4 liter.

To adjust the cruise at the throttle linkage on the v6-
release the lock clip at the cable housing end, then move the cable by hand to remove any slack then push teh lock clip back in.
For the 4 cyl you just loosen the thumbscrew to remive any slack.
