New WRC Liveries

It appears Carlos Sainz is about to to sign up for a Citroen drive next year. Thanks to sponsor Telefonica paying for Citroen to run a third car. This means there will be a new Citroen Livery next year! They might even be blue and yellow

I have a (very) long term plan to build one of each of the cars Carlos Sainz has rallied in his long career. For a moment there it looked like the last car in this series would be the Focus. Now there will be one more :D Apparently Telefonica's deal is for three years, wonder if Carlos will be around that long.

Unfortunately it has been reported that Louis Moya will not be co-driving with "El Mattador". A shame to break up what must be one of, if not the longest running partnerships in rallying history.

Also the new Marlboro liveried Peugeot is scheduled to be unveiled on Friday. :flash:

Something to keep the decal manufacuters busy!

I'm really really looking forward to that!!!! :D

Maybe now with (hopefully) two world champions at Citroen someonewill make a decent kit of the Xsara!!!!

That's good news to me! I would love to see 'El Matador' in my favourite rally team :D A shame though that most probably they will kiss the wonderfull red livery good-bye. But then again with the Pug's in Marlboro red there could have been difficulties in recognition from a distance. Oh well, maybe they come up with something equally cool!

Ales:
I think we'll have to wait till they actually win the WRC crown before we get a decent kit of the Xsara, but we've talked about this here before I think.

Cheers,
Guido

Well, it's not like Lancer WRC set the world alight this season ... So one can hope.

Guido,
I don't get that, you would struggle to tell the Peugeot 206 and Citroen Xsara apart?
Just asking because I think they are so different, but I would LOVE to see a kit of the Xsara, I like the car but not the drivers(unless Carlos signs there and I will like 1)

Well I know I don't remember Ford being World Champion for a long time either... but I'm with you guys, I'm hoping ever since Citroen started with the Xsara Kit car.

I guess It's down to what sells best in Japan and US. Citroen is not so well known as a carmaker overthere I guess. They're very popular in France, Belgium, Spain and Netherlands and a bit less but still very well known in the rest of Europe, so that's probably why, but when Carlos becomes World Champion again in the Xsara they won't have a choice anymore.:D :D

Not exactly. It's not that I or we would not be able to see the diff between Xsara and Pug in the same colour :right: , but I can imagine that the general audience who are not so specialised and only watch on TV might not always see the difference and that's what the rally markting boys don't want, right?

The Lancer was red too:D
But, I understand what you are saying, but then again, rally ain't like Nascar where all the cars LOOK the same except for the livery.;)

I will be championing Citreon next year for sure! Ever since Juha Kankkunen - who's been my fave for years - stopped fully competing, i've started to support Sebastian Loeb. He's proved to be damn quick on tarmac so we'll see what he can do on the rough stuff next year.

Shoot me, but I don't like it.....that will sure take some getting used to!
The new(now old) style Impreza was one degree of shock to the poor system, but the new Pug livery is beyond a shock, it is a heart attack!!!
I think if Tamiya release this one, I will give it a miss.....

OMFG! They can't be serious  So many cool things they could have created and the chumps come up with this abomination of a paint job :bloated:

Of all the liveries that have graced the 206 this is by far the worst! Even the most cash strapped privateer has so far managed to come up with something a million times more attractive than this. I dearly hope this is just a 'test' paintjob, not what the car will look like on the stages.

The more I look at it, the more I think it looks like a 206 in Lancer's clothing.....literally like they took the same paint scheme and transposed it directly from one car to the other....

  If they want to make used of red and white color on Peugeot 206, should at least look a little more like the Bastos 206, it will look a little more nicer to that.

I'm loving every bit of it!!!!!! Oh yeah! At last something exciting. I was appaled when they changed from the beutiful '99 lion lively to the dull, IMO, silver. '01-'02 was a bit better, but '03 totally owns me!!!!

Love it love it love it!!!!

 What's this stuff??? It's bad taste come alive!!! Let's hope for all of us that they won't be using it as a real scheme next year!!

 Maybe it can be caused by the shock-effect that this livery has, but honestly, seeing this car in such an horrendous Marlboro livery just makes me want to switch cigarette brands!!!

Actually, not such a bad idea, if all the liveries were so disgusting, wouldn't the amount of smoking teenagers decrease fenomenally??? just a thought :flipa: :smoker2:

I think it would have been pretty good looking if the white line at the bottom of the car was thinner, like that on the EVOs:(
I like the lion livery most tho....

I quite like it! Its nice to see a change from the silver livery that's been running for the past 3 years or so. I much prefer the Maalboro livery on the Pugs than the Lancer's thats for sure!

Yeah, it appears to be just a continuation of Marlboro's 'Corporate Identity' doesn't it? And take a look at this picture of the Ferrari F1-2002, explains where the red line at the bottom comes from. Also might explain why Ferrari fans like Alex think the "new" livery is cool.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/80194607-MONACO-28.JPG

So Peugeot is now just a cog in the Philip Morris machine, I guess they are being paid well. Wouldn't be so bad except that whilst the livery looked great on a Lancer and okay on an F1 Ferrari - it just does not suit the 206 in my eyes.

Really quite bemusing the graphic designers went this way because with a few changes it could be made to suck a whole lot less. Like making the red/white division follow the body contours and panels on the car, working with the form of the body rather than in spite of it.

Max's modifications are a first step down the right path. I just hope that Peugeot will have refined the design in a similar way come the first morning of the Monte! At the end of the day I am a devoted Pug fanatic so even if the new livery is almost as ugly as a Ferrari Enzo it is still my duty to build one :silly: And regardless of the paint job hopefully it will still cary Marcus and Timo to Championship number three :right:

That's rigth buddy, sponsoring is all about marketing and corporate identity is nearly the most important thing in that. So there you go, and the F-2002 scheme does prove all that. For Marlboro marketing boys it's a mission accomplished so far, because there's a lot of buzz going on about it...

That's the spirit of a true and devoted fan! :D Same for me, regardless the colours that a Mercedes have raced in, regardless if I like it or not, I HAVE to build it. On the Marcus thing I will not comment however... :finger:

I prefer the old silver paint job, with this new red paint job it reminds me a little bit of the Xsara. I wonder how Tamiya will handle the Marlboro licensing when making the kit! Will we all have to buy S27?

On a side note, now what will Mitsubishi's new Colt look like, without their trademark red/white livery? Perhaps the new red/silver/gray will carry over to the Colt? :)

:silly: :p :D

I don't know why, but there's something about some tobacco liveries that is appealing to my eyes (I don't smoke and never have and hope never will). I like most Marlboro schemes, the Rothmans scheme on the Williams was absolutely great, and West on the McLaren *cough*looks*very*cough*good*cough* :D And who can forget the stunning JPS Lotuses?

Marcus will be my second choice of a cahmpion next year. ;)

funny thing: for some reason a lot of my favourite racers drive for Marlboro-coloured machines - Michael Schumacher, Max Biaggi, now gronholm and Panizzi (hopefully). And I started supporting all of them before they became sponsored by Phillip Morris

In the same way as all other rally cars they have produced with tabacco/alchohol sponserships - by producing the kit to make up one of the cars as raced in an event where those forms of advertising are banned. Monte Carlo rally seems to be a popular choice.
