Just watched it on DateLine, big improvement from the 6th gen's "Good" back in '98. it may be a FWD car, but at least you can walk away from a wreck.
In 1998 the Honda Accord received an acceptable rating. “The kind of forces we recorded were sufficient to cause a leg fracture,” says O’Neill.
Now five years later how does the Accord do? The 2003 Honda Accord also gets a best pick.
“And now we have very good structural performance everywhere, including the foot well region,” says O’Neill.
Never has the Institute had a group of cars in one round that did so well in the crash test. Not only did every car get a good, it also got a “Best Pick.” And at the Insurance Institute that means you’re the cream of the crop.

Also at www.hwysafety.org, be sure to check the intrusion measures for various cars. For example, although a lot of people don't consider crash safety an important factor in vehicle choice, it is. Let's put it this way. If you are driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra, and slam into another car at 40mph, you can plan on the brake pedal (which your foot is probably pushing down very hard on) move upward/backward 2.36 inches in a mere fraction of a second. However, if you were in a 2001 Ford F150, in the same accident, plan on that pedal moving 17.7 inches. Yes, that's right. A foot and a half. In other words you've just dislocated your hip, knee, ankle, and probably shattered several bones too. Something to think about.
