differences in 88 axles?

I need new axles for my 88 civic hatch and this dude said there are 2 different kind for my car and I would have to count something on the axle? not very sure about that? what r the differences in the 88 hatch?

..you're friends thinking of the splines in the input shaft of the tranny....all 88-91 axles have the same spline count...but you'll have to use hf/std axles if you have a std.... dx/si axles are the same..
