88 Jetta not getting fuel

88 Jetta GL died chugging to a stop. I am not getting fuel to the engine. Pulled the line to the fuel rail and not a drop. I then replaced the external fuel pump and filter. Still nothing. I can hear the tank fuel pump work and pulled it just to make sure that it worked. It did pump fuel. I then replaced the fuel pump relay. Still nothing! That is where I am and am praying for some help. It seemed so simple! I am not by any stretch a mechanic so I am probably missing something in front of my face. Please help. I need to get to work! Thanks!

take a multimeter adn see if your getting power to the main pump (external). if not then you have a wireing fault betweent he relay and hte pump. could just be a bad ground as well. VWs are KNOWN for craptastic grounds. clean em up and see what happens.

Thanks again for your info!! I checked and I am not getting power to the external fp. I do get it at the intank pump. There is a two wire connector from the intank pump which has no power. I'm wondering if that goes to the external pump. Any ideas? Thanks again.

ok. that 2 wire deal with no power is for the fuel guage. that should be fine. does your fuel guage work???? as for no power to the pump that would be why its not running right. as soon as i find my manual with wireing daiagrams i will tell you the EXACT plug terminal on the back of the fusebox to check. that way if its wiring related you should be able to either A. fix the break in the wire. or B. run a new hot lead from that terminal. also check the fusebox its self. i doubt its that bad but ya never know. see if you have power at that pin.

i will reply when i found it and which pin it is.
