2000 bonneville engine - transmission interchange

I have a 2000 bonneville -- I also have a 99 buick lesabre engine & transmission will they interchange? --- the bonneville transmission code is 610PAB --- the code on the buick is 618TPB --- both engines are series II 3800 for the most part are identical with the differences being in accessory items, PS, ALT, AC mounting ... additionally the oil pan will need to be changed for the front mount. My question is the Transmission? ... thank in advance for any help.

Almost need to know the RPO codes on both of the cars to be able to determine what gear ratio the transmissions have...

as for the engine.... It will swap out as long as they are both L36 engines, and yes you'll have to swap the oil pan and related parts over..:smile:

If the gear ratio is differant,change the final drive and I do this all the.The book says they are differant and it is wrong.Most people do not you can just change the final drive and sometimes the electrical on the 4t65e and 1993 to 1999 4t60e transaxles

Help me understand this a little better...

If he needed a 2.93 Trans but managed to get a 3.29 Trans then he wouldn't be able to just change the final drive ( Diff ).. The 3.29 is a 35/35 drive & Driven... The 2.93 is a 37/35 drive & driven... In this case the drive and driven sprockets would have to be changed..

If this were the 3.05 or 2.86 Trans then iirc they both have the 35/35 drive and driven sprockets

The drive sprockets do not have to be changed and the only differance is the final drive.

So if the Buick Trans is a 2.86 and the Bonneville trans is a 3.05 all that has to be done is to swap out the the final drive as they are both 35/35 drive and driven correct?

Almost forgot... What year and model is this Bonneville?

Yes that is all you have to swap out.If you don't,transmaxle will not work.I believe the 4t65e,you hit one the the shaft with a hammer and punch on the final drive side.The shaft should come out with a tap with a hammer
